Mr. Mardirossian's illustrious career spans over three decades, marked by significant contributions to the fields of physics and engineering. As a retired physicist, his expertise in sonar systems, sonar acoustics, active vibration, and fiber optics networks has been widely recognized. His career began with Western Electric International, where he contributed to microwave communication projects worldwide, including in Saudi Arabia and Iran. This role laid the foundation for his future endeavors in telecommunications and defense technologies.
Mr. Mardirossian's tenure at Bell Laboratories was particularly noteworthy. As a physicist, he oversaw research, implemented projects and conducted tests that culminated in presentations to the Navy. His work on defense submarine technologies, specifically developing sonar systems before the Cold War, stands as one of his most notable achievements. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in creating a fiber-optic undersea network with Tyco Telecommunications to enhance Wi-Fi and internet connectivity for the world with his inventions that awarded him 4 US patents in that field.
In 1985, Mr. Mardirossian became the general partner and general manager for real estate investment properties at Shahovian Enterprises, a position he held until 2024. Concurrently, he owned and managed Hi Tech Wireless Services LLC from 2001 to 2009. His earlier roles included serving as a system and product engineer at Tyco Telecommunication from 1997 to 2001 and as a senior research scientist at Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories from 1980 to 1997. During this period, he also worked as a technical staff member at AT&T Bell Laboratories from 1980 to 1984.
Mr. Mardirossian's academic background provided a strong foundation for his professional success. He earned a Master of Science in communication technologies from the Stevens Institute of Technology in 1984, sponsored by Bell Labs Study Program, following a Bachelor of Science in nuclear physics from The City College of New York in 1973. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in physics, with a minor in Armenian history, from the American University of Beirut and Haigazian College in Lebanon. His interest in physics was sparked during high school by an engaging teacher who used practical demonstrations to explain complex concepts. During his time at Haigazian in 1966, he joined the Rocket Society and collaborated with the American University of Beirut on experimental studies for the Cedar Lebanese Rockets.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Mardirossian has been actively involved in various civic organizations. He is a founding member of the Armenian Athletic Association "Homenetmen" and Armenian Engineers and Scientists of America Northeastern branch. He also served as president emeritus and chairman of technology and education for the Armenian Engineers and Scientists of America from 2015 to 2018. His dedication to community service is further exemplified by his charity work with the Knights of Vartan and his involvement with St. Mary Armenian Church in Livingston, New Jersey as parish council, choir member and participant of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education at St. Elizabeth University. He has also been and keynote speaker on the Armenian genocide of 1915 to the Livingston Historic Society.
Throughout his career, Mr. Mardirossian has received numerous accolades for his contributions. He was honored with an award from the Armenian Engineers and Scientists Association as a founding member and received an accomplishment award from Lucent Technologies. Additionally, St. Mary Armenian Church recognized him for his many years of service as a teacher and principal at the ARARATIAN Armenian School.
In his personal life, Mr. Mardirossian is dedicated to mentoring aspiring engineers and scientists. He hopes to continue teaching and collaborating with Rutgers University and Armenian universities in Armenia while providing scholarships for women studying aerospace engineering in Armenia at Engineering City, and collaborating in fundraising for the Armenian War Veterans study program in Gyumri, Armenia. His commitment to education and mentorship in the USA and Armenia reflects his belief in perseverance and using setbacks as opportunities for growth, a philosophy that has guided him throughout his distinguished career.
Mr. Mardirossian is an active member of the Armenian Engineers and Scientists of America (AESA). He is also a member of the United Inventors Association, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Science and Technology Angels Network, and a life member of AT&T Pioneers.
