CHERRY HILL, NJ, May 12, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elsie Anne Tshimunyi McKee has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With a career spanning nearly four decades, Dr. McKee has established herself as an expert in religious studies. Her tenure at the Princeton Theological Seminary is particularly noteworthy. She joined the faculty in 1992 as an Archibald Alexander associate professor of the history of worship and served in this capacity until advancing to full professor in 1994. She expanded her area of expertise and, in 1998, took on the title of Archibald Alexander professor of Reformation studies and the history of worship.

Before joining the Princeton Theological Seminary, Dr. McKee was an associate professor of church history at Andover Newton Theological School from 1988 to 1992, following her initial appointment in 1982 as an assistant professor. Her academic journey also included a position as a visiting professor at the Faculté de Théologie Réformée au Kasai in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1995. Additional international endeavors include experiences as a guest lecturer at the Waldensian Seminary in Rome and guest professor at the University of Göttingen in Germany, both of which took place in 2004.

Dr. McKee's involvement with organizations such as the American Society of Church History, Sixteenth Century Studies and Conferences, Calvin Studies Society (vice president 1993-1995), president 1995-1997), the International Congress for Calvin Research (Praesidium 2000-2018) further underscores her influence in her field. These affiliations highlight her dedication to advancing scholarly discourse and collaboration.

Dr. McKee's educational background laid a strong foundation for her illustrious career. Growing up bilingual in Africa, she later studied in Europe and North America. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy, summa cum laude, from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1982, after receiving a Diploma in Theology from Cambridge University in 1974. In 1973, she graduated with high honors from Hendrix College, earning a Bachelor of Arts. In 2015, she was awarded a distinguished alunma Odyssey Award from Hendrix.

Dr. McKee has received numerous awards and fellowships supporting her endeavors. Some of these include travel and research grants from the Lilly Foundation (1989), an American Council of Learned Societies (1986) and particularly a two-year Fulbright Award (1979-1981) for study in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr. McKee's scholarly contributions are extensive. Her primary publications have focused on two figures: John Calvin (1509-1564) and Katherina Schütz Zell (1498-1562). She is best known for her trilogy on Calvin's teaching on ministry and worship: John Calvin on the Diaconate and Liturgical Almsgiving, 1984; Elders and the Plural Ministry, 1988; Pastoral Ministry and Worship in Calvin's Geneva, 2016. She is also widely known for her two volumes on Katherina Schütz Zell: The Life and Thought of a Sixteenth Century Reformer, and The Writings. A Critical Edition (both 1999). Dr. McKee has also produced volumes of translations, articles, and other texts; her writings have appeared in French, German, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese.

While Dr. McKee has built an illustrious career in academia, her philanthropic efforts are equally commendable. In 2013, she founded Woman, Cradle of Abundance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women and children in her native country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Her latest book is the autobiography of the leader of a partner nonprofit in Kinshasa, Mme Monique Misenga Mukuna. McKee translated and edited, Cradling Abundance. One Christian's Story of Empowering Women and Fighting Systemic Poverty (2021).

Dr. McKee credits her success to her dedication to learning and sharing her knowledge with others. She carries a profound awareness of the privileges she enjoys, recognizing that, by global standards, she is incredibly blessed due to her access to education, clothing, shelter and medical care—luxuries that many take for granted. While she understands that she cannot change the inherent inequalities in the world, she believes in being the best steward of her resources—time, energy, attention and compassion—to support those who have less.

Outside her professional pursuits, Dr. McKee enjoys reading, walking and listening to piano and choral music. She is deeply committed to mentoring international students through volunteer work, reflecting her passion for education and cultural exchange. Looking ahead, Dr. McKee aims to complete an academic project focused on editing a sixteenth-century manuscript of John Calvin's sermons while ensuring financial stability and succession planning for Woman, Cradle of Abundance.
