She also served as a teacher of in-class support from 2013 to 2018 and taught pre-kindergarten general education during the 2012-2013 academic year. Her experience extends to being a special education mathematics interventionist from 2009 to 2012 and a general education math interventionist from 2005 to 2006. Throughout her career, Ms. Young has been recognized for her dedication, including winning Teacher of the Year at Petrosky Elementary School in 2014-2015.

Before transitioning into education, Ms. Young spent 12 years in the corporate sector, holding various roles that honed her organizational and communication skills. She worked in accounts receivable, accounts payable and collections at Cash Register Sales from 2003 to 2005. Additionally, she held positions such as receptionist, medical transcriptionist, accounting auditor and technician at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialist-Radiology and Oncology from 2000 to 2002. Her early career included roles as a receptionist at the Meyerland Animal Clinic from 1998 to 2000 and as a personnel recruiter and clerk monitor for Harris County, Texas, from 1995 to 1997.

Ms. Young's educational background includes a Master of Science in education, curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix in 2008 and a Bachelor of Science in agriculture education from Tarleton State University in 1994. Her certifications include alternative certification for special education, special education EC-12, English as a second language generalist EC-4, physical education EC-12 and generalist EC-4. These qualifications have been instrumental in her ability to address the diverse needs of her students effectively.

Ms. Young's involvement with professional organizations such as the Association of Texas Professional Educators underscores her commitment to staying current through professional development and peer collaboration. She attributes much of her success to taking advantage of opportunities for continuing education. Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Young is involved in civic activities that enrich her community. She volunteers with the Special Olympics and has been a coach for the Alief Special Olympics team since 2006. Her leadership roles include being head of delegation for the Alief Special Olympics from 2017 to 2022 and serving on various committees within the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

In her personal life, Ms. Young enjoys horseback riding, horse training, giving riding lessons and taking road trips. She is considering future opportunities within educational administration, such as accepting roles as an instructional coordinator or reading facilitator. Ms. Young's professional philosophy centers on making a difference in her students' lives by fostering a love for learning and building strong relationships.
