Dr. Howell is a distinguished professional with nearly 40 years of experience as an educator and higher education administrator, where she has excelled in developing and managing strategic plans to enhance student success. Dr. Howell has been self-employed as an academic tutor and advisor since 2019, providing individualized support to students across various educational levels from elementary school to college and aiding parents. She served as a soccer and tennis coach for USA Sport Group in 2024. Dr. Howell is also the founder and chief executive officer of Healthy and Strong Adults Fitness Center LLC, where she assists clients with corrective exercise, strength building, balance training and nutritional coaching.
Before these roles, she was the vice president for student life at St. Joseph's University from 2015 to 2019, where she addressed matters related to sexual assault and drove student success holistically by highlighting both classroom performance and working to address the external challenges faced by students.
From 2005 to 2015, Dr. Howell served as the dean of students at Montclair State University, where she designed innovative student service programs. Many of the programs she implemented to support and enhance student success are still in place and thrive. Before that, she was the dean of student services at the Fashion Institute of Technology from 2001 to 2005, during which she worked to enhance enrollment services, student support, and college strategic assessment.
Dr. Howell began her career in higher education at Medgar Evers College, where she worked as an advisor on a grant-funded program to assist students. She continued her career at Rutgers University–New Brunswick, where she held roles including assistant dean of academic and student affairs, assistant director of cooperative education, and adjunct faculty in the departments of Teacher Education and Africana Studies. During her tenure, she focused on quality control to ensure the university met students' needs. She spearheaded a state-funded initiative that allowed underserved high school students to experience college life and find internship opportunities.
Dr. Howell's robust academic background includes an EdD in educational administration and supervision from Rutgers University-New Brunswick in 1999. She also holds a Master of Arts in educational administration and supervision from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in education and health from Brooklyn College. To augment her qualifications, she was certified as a corrective exercise specialist from the International Sports Sciences Association in 2025, a senior fitness specialist by the National Academy of Sports Medicine in 2024, and obtained various other certifications from the International Sports Sciences Association. Her success is deeply influenced by her parents, particularly her mother, whose strength and resilience continue to inspire her in all she does.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Howell is civically engaged with various charitable organizations, such as Compassion International and Vietnam Veterans of America. She contributes her time and resources to help others in her local church and community. Also a sought-after presenter and facilitator, she continues to share her knowledge and experience in strategic plans that enhance student access inside and outside the classroom.
Born in New York City, Dr. Howell is a classical pianist who enjoys interior design and helping others. She is happily married to a former US Army veteran and college administrator. Looking to the future, she wants to support more young individuals and adults in becoming healthier while opening an after-school center to aid educational advancement further. Her legacy reflects her dedication and passion for helping others find their path to professional and personal success.
