Since 2020, Mr. Jacobs has served as executive director of the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL), a multidisciplinary nonprofit cultural institution in southeast Queens, New York.

JAMAICA, NY, May 16, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Leonard Jacobs has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Jacobs has charted a distinguished career in arts and culture, marked by his adept transition across various roles. Since 2020, he has served as executive director of the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL), a multidisciplinary nonprofit cultural institution in southeast Queens, New York. JCAL's mission is to offer quality visual and performing arts programs and accessible education programs to encourage participation in the arts. Mr. Jacobs' responsibilities include overseeing finance, fundraising, marketing, communications, facilities, and operations of two landmark buildings. Under his leadership, JCAL's budget has doubled since 2020. Additionally, the organization has developed a 5-year strategic plan.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Jacobs held the positions of interim executive director and deputy director at the same institution from 2019 to 2021. His tenure at JCAL began during the pandemic; he successfully navigated the challenges he faced to strengthen the organization's foundation. Before joining JCAL, he was director of cultural institutions at the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the nation's largest public arts funding agency, from 2011 to 2018.

Mr. Jacobs was a theatre critic, arts journalist and editor before entering the arts administration and government sectors. His editorial journey included roles as a National Theatre editor and associate editor at The Nielsen Company from 2001 to 2008. From 1999 to 2000, he was a founding editor of Theatermania.com, laying the groundwork for his 2008 venture as the founder of The Clyde Fitch Report, a popular blog at the crossroads of arts and politics.

In addition to professional endeavors, Mr. Jacobs shared his knowledge as an adjunct professor in the Master of Arts Administration program at Baruch College, a constituent college of the City University of New York (CUNY), from 2016 to 2018. His academic background includes a Master of Arts in theater history and dramaturgy from CUNY Hunter College, completed in 2014, and a bachelor's degree in liberal arts with a concentration in theater from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, earned in 1992.

Mr. Jacobs has been recognized through various accolades. He was listed on the Queens Power List in 2024 and named among the Arts & Culture Power 100. As an author, he penned "Historic Photos of Broadway: New York Theater 1850-1970," released by Turner Publishing in 2008. Mr. Jacobs is an avid amateur genealogist who enjoys food and traveling.
