Before joining Syngenta Group, Dr. Pinnisch honed his skills in product development at Pioneer Hi-Bred, where he was recognized with the Initiative for Growth Award in 2003. Significant contributions to product innovation and development strategies marked his tenure at Pioneer Hi-Bred. Prior to this role, he served as a canola breeder at Cargill in Camrose Alberta, where he gained valuable experience in crop improvement techniques. His early career began as a research associate at the University of Manitoba, where he helped develop methods of hybrid canola seed production.
Dr. Pinnisch's academic journey began with a bachelor's degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1985, followed by a master's degree from the University of Manitoba in 1988. He furthered his education with a PhD from the University of Minnesota in 1996. These academic achievements have been instrumental in shaping his career, providing him with a robust foundation in plant genetics and breeding methodologies. His strong work ethic and ability to find positivity in challenging situations have been pivotal to his success, allowing him to navigate complex challenges effectively.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Pinnisch has made significant contributions to the academic community as a past reviewer of manuscripts published by the American Society of Agronomy in the Journal of Plant Registrations. His breeding efforts aimed at the development of hybrid corn products have been recognized with the Donald N. Duvick Americas Regional Corn Hybrid of the Year Award for the Canada Region for 39D97 in 2012.
Outside his professional life, Dr. Pinnisch, who was born in Winnipeg Manitoba and raised on a grain and livestock farm near Yorkton Saskatchewan, enjoys traveling to historically important landmarks, collecting ancient coins, visiting museums and hiking. These interests reflect his appreciation for history and culture and complement his scientific pursuits.
