Ms. Barela has established herself as a distinguished thought leader in the field of information technology operations. With a career spanning multiple technological eras, she currently serves as a thought leader and practice lead for Information Technology Service Management at Service Made Simple, a position she has held since 2015. In this role, she primarily assists IT operations leaders in developing their organizations and enhancing their results. Her efforts focus on building comprehensive strategies, defining visions that align with overall business goals, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

In addition to her role at Service Made Simple, Ms. Barela is also the chief executive officer and operations excellence thought leader at WWC Ltd., a position she has held since 2009. Her expertise in program and process management has been instrumental in her success across various roles throughout her career.

Notably, during her tenure as director of data center operations at US West Inc. from 1994 to 2001, Ms. Barela was recognized for redesigning mainframe and midrange IT operations, an achievement that earned her the President's Club award. Her strategy for this change highlighted valuing her team and their talents, as well as implementing processes that resulted in continuous improvement. Upon stepping into the director role, with responsibility for 250 employees, she learned the vital role of clear communication. She crafted a new vision for the organization and designed a five-year plan. She traveled to meet her direct reports across seven states, conducted quarterly meetings, and integrated their input into the overall vision, ultimately completing the project in two and a half years.

Ms. Barela's career journey includes significant contributions to several other organizations. As a senior information technology consultant at TriZetto from 2003 to 2004, she successfully addressed critical challenges, such as retaining a major customer by improving service delivery within a tight deadline. Her leadership skills were further demonstrated when Trizetto offered her a job as senior director then vice president of hosting infrastructure. With her leadership as an expert in quality processes, her team was able to reduce sev1 client impacting outages from 21 in February 2007 to 0 in November 2007. Prior to these roles, she served as director of IT operations at On Command from 2002 to 2003, while they relocated their data center.

As far as her education, Ms. Barela obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Regis University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. In addition, her love of learning resulted in completing several certifications, such as Team Leadership Training, the Team Emotional and Social Intelligence Survey Certification and the Emergenetics Associate Certification.

Outside her work responsibilities, Ms. Barela is actively involved in civic organizations, serving as a board member, then board chair, then the executive director of the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame from 2015 through 2021. Her commitment to empowering women is also evident through her mentoring efforts and dedication to helping women recognize their potential and contributions to organizations.

In her personal life, Ms. Barela values spending time with family, including her children and grandchildren and traveling the world.
