Having begun his journey with his military service, Mr. Wilkerson was an airman in the U.S. Navy in 1976 before being honorably discharged in 1980. This experience laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors, instilling a sense of discipline and commitment. Following his military service, Mr. Wilkerson pursued academic excellence, participating in the ECI program in architecture at Prairie View A&M University in 1976 and completing coursework in architecture and construction at Texas Southern University in 1986. He also received a wastewater engineering certification from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension at Texas A&M University. Mr. Wilkerson's educational achievements have been instrumental in shaping his career, providing him with the technical knowledge and skills necessary for success.

In addition to his professional roles, Mr. Wilkerson has been actively involved in various civic and community organizations. He has been a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. since 1977. His commitment to service is further exemplified by his involvement with the Knights of Saint Peter Claver, where he serves as a deputy grand knight for Council 159 and state recording secretary for the Texas State Council. Mr. Wilkerson's dedication extends to volunteering with organizations like Feeding the Homeless and engaging in pro bono work with the Catholic League for the Poor of Nigeria. His efforts have profoundly impacted local and international communities, reflecting his commitment to making a positive difference.

Mr. Wilkerson is an accomplished author, having collaborated on projects between Texas Southern University and the Catholic League for the Poor of Nigeria.

Throughout his career, Mr. Wilkerson has received numerous accolades, including recognition as the Most Outstanding Young Man of America in 1985. He was also recognized as a Meritorious Fourth Degree Knight from the Knights of Saint Peter Claver Inc., Father John H. Dorsey Assembly No. 2, in 2024.
