Mr. González is a disaster risk specialist instructor at San Francisco Community Agencies Responding to Disaster (SF CARD), where he has been instrumental in teaching wildfire preparedness and risk reduction strategies. His role involves developing and implementing interactive educational programs for youth, focusing on preparing emergency response kits for various natural hazards. Additionally, Mr. González educates children on identifying and understanding potential environmental hazards and exposure risks, fostering critical thinking and proactive behaviors in emergencies. Based in San Francisco, SF CARD is recognized as a nonprofit organization that joins other nonprofit, religious, and private organizations to provide critical services following a disaster.
Before joining SF CARD in 2024, Mr. González was a contractor with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Americas and the Caribbean, from 2024 to 2025. In this capacity, he contributed to regional resilience initiatives, leveraging his expertise to enhance disaster preparedness across Latin America and the Caribbean. He conducted statistical research and analysis, identified national-level hazard, exposure and vulnerability datasets in Costa Rica, and was recognized for developing a proof-of-concept exposure model. Mr. González also garnered success as a resilience consultant at AECOM in Colombia between 2022 and 2023, where he provided strategic guidance to the global civil engineering company on infrastructure projects to bolster community resilience.
In 2017, Mr. González was a transportation infrastructure advisor at the National Infrastructure Agency in Colombia. This followed his role as a transportation infrastructure advisor with the Presidency of the Republic of Colombia from 2016 to 2017. During this period, he worked alongside the vice president of Colombia during a significant phase of national infrastructure development. Mr. González's office was responsible for overseeing various infrastructure initiatives across the nation, a role he considers one of his crowning achievements due to its impact on the country.
Earlier, Mr. González was a community resilience consultant with IDIGER between 2014 and 2016, where he focused on analyzing the risk of landslides, flooding, and earthquakes in Bogota to determine eligibility in the formal city layout without strengthening future vulnerabilities and risks, devised weekly seismic reports and more. He also garnered success as a disaster risk management project engineer at Ingeniar Risk Intelligence from 2012 to 2014. Mr. González's professional journey began as an urban resilience researcher at the National University of Colombia between 2008 and 2013 after initially gaining experience as a civil engineering intern at EFIGAS from 2007 to 2008.
Mr. González's academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the National University of Colombia in 2009 and a Master of professional studies in urban and regional planning from Georgetown University in 2021(plus Master of science in Habitat at National University of Colombia 2015 and a master in Structural engineering). He has also obtained several certifications from the Federal Emergency Management Agency in 2024, including IS-100: Introduction to Incident Command, IS-200: Basic Incident Command System, and IS-700: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System. Additionally, Mr. González completed an intensive English program at Kaplan International Languages in 2018 and received a certificate in English as a second language from Northern Virginia Community College in 2019.
Beyond his professional roles, Mr. González has been engaged in civic opportunities. In 2024, he volunteered with SF Climate Week and the San Francisco Estuary Partnership. He also volunteered with UNICITI from 2022 to 2023.
Eager for future opportunities, Mr. González aims to lead a team focused on reducing costs for cities in the U.S. and other countries. He is also excited about traveling and giving conferences about building more effectively through his projects.
He plans to develop more transferable skills, such as leadership, project management, and multitasking, all strengths within his skill set. Additionally, he aims to highlight his international experience and global perspective.
