Mr. Zanecki has established himself as a distinguished environmental lawyer with a focus on clean water and the implementation of the Clean Water Act. His career spans several decades, marked by significant contributions to land use, zoning and environmental conservation. His expertise in environmental law, land use and property has been instrumental in his role as an attorney and consultant at GreenVest LLC since 2015. Mr. Zanecki's early career was marked by his role as associate general counsel for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission from 1970 to 1973. This position provided him with foundational experience in drafting ordinances and legislation related to land use and zoning. His commitment to environmental conservation is further demonstrated by his involvement with the Scenic Rivers Land Trust as a board member since 2020.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Zanecki has been actively involved in civic organizations. He served as a special advisor to the Office of the Governor and has been a member of various committees focused on smart growth and wetlands restoration since the early 2000s. His dedication to public service is reflected in his gubernatorial appointments as Chairman of the State of Maryland Smart Growth Commission in 1999, and even his role as president of the Prince George's Philharmonic Orchestra from 1990 to 1992.

Mr. Zanecki's academic background includes a Juris Doctor from Columbus School of Law at Catholic University of America in 1970 and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Franklin & Marshall College in 1965.
