Mr. Parker has dedicated over 35 years to death investigation and law enforcement, establishing himself as a medicolegal death investigation expert. Currently, he is associated with Paul Parker Consulting, where he provides consulting services for second opinions on death investigations, focusing on reviewing cases for thoroughness. Additionally, he offers training to agencies and organizations and is frequently contacted by the media for his expert opinions on deaths in custody. Before launching his consulting company, Mr. Parker served as the executive officer for the San Diego County Citizens' Law Enforcement Review Board from 2020 to 2024. In this position, he was instrumental in making recommendations aimed at preventing deaths in custody, with over half of these initiatives being implemented by the sheriff in San Diego County. Mr. Parker's efforts were credited with saving lives and enhancing transparency within law enforcement practices.

From 2018 to 2020, Mr. Parker held the leading title of chief deputy director at the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. He managed daily operations and contributed significantly to the department's mission of providing accurate and timely death investigations. Mr. Parker's leadership skills were also honed during his earlier tenure as the executive officer for the San Diego County Citizens' Law Enforcement Review Board between 2017 and 2018.

Mr. Parker's career also included serving as the assistant coroner at the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner from 2015 to 2017, which set the foundation for his future success. He also briefly owned Parker Medicolegal Services LLC between 2014 and 2015, where he provided specialized consulting services. Mr. Parker's role as the director of the Pinal County Medical Examiner's Office in Phoenix from 2012 to 2014 involved overseeing complex death investigations in a region known for its executions.

Mr. Parker's extensive experience in death investigation began with his role as a medical investigator and licensing manager at the Arizona Medical Board in 2011. He also served as the chief investigator at the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner from 2010 to 2011 and as the supervising medical examiner investigator at the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office from 1999 to 2010. Mr. Parker's early career in law enforcement took place at the Youngtown Police Department, where he rose from police aide to lieutenant between 1989 and 1999.

To further advance his career, Mr. Parker obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, which has been instrumental in his ability to manage complex operations and lead teams effectively. His early experiences as a dispatcher and crime scene technician laid the foundation for his interest in death investigation, ultimately leading him to attend the Phoenix Regional Police Academy, where he graduated at the top of his class.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Parker is actively involved in Colin Kaepernick's Autopsy Initiative Program and the American Civil Liberties Union. He is also an accomplished author, publishing a memoir titled "In the Shadows of Death: Writing Life's Final Chapter." The book reflects on Mr. Parker's experiences in death investigation and law enforcement, addressing challenges faced by professionals in high-stress jobs and emphasizing mental health support, among other topics.

Mr. Parker has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Society of Professional Journalists Window Award for Government Transparency in 2023 and several Life-Saving Awards during his time with the Youngtown Police Department. Looking ahead, he aims to improve death investigation practices across the U.S. He also plans to publish another book focused on oversight in law enforcement and enhancing transparency for families affected by custody deaths.
