HOMESTEAD, FL, May 22, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hannah M. Purcell, a NBCT, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. With a commendable career spanning over four decades, Ms. Purcell has dedicated herself to education, primarily serving Miami-Dade County Public Schools. For over 30 years, she has held the esteemed role of teacher, reading/writing facilitator, lead teacher/advocate and grade level chair among others. Throughout her tenure, Ms. Purcell became known for her innovative approach to environmental education and her unwavering commitment to student empowerment. Her efforts have enriched countless students' lives and led to her school receiving numerous national, state, and local awards. She attributes this success to her school's united efforts.

Beyond the classroom walls, Ms. Purcell has served as a presenter at national, state and district environmental education conferences. Her passion has led to her school earning the U.S. Department of Education's Green Ribbon School and the Florida Green School Award, among others. Her dedication also resulted in the protection of natural land adjacent to the school via Miami-Dade's Environmentally Endangered Lands Program, titled "School Board Pineland."

Her "green" initiatives included improvements to the old school building, infusing environmental education across the curriculum, creating collaborations, long-term school/community partnerships providing educational experiences, curriculum resources and grants. By empowering others, she created a "green legacy" following her retirement.

Beyond her professional endeavors, she has made significant contributions through extracurricular involvement by serving as a tutor for homeless children at a local abuse shelter as well as community environmental educational events.

In preparation for her career, Ms. Purcell received a Bachelor of Science from Florida International University in 1991 and a Master of Science in education from the University of Miami in 2001. During her studies, she was notably elected into Phi Delta Kappa. Further solidifying her expertise, Ms. Purcell became a National Board Certified Teacher through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Ms. Purcell's dedication has been recognized through many accolades, including the Teacher of the Year award from Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the Spirit of Service Learning Award from the Miami-Dade Teacher of the Year Coalition, Trailblazing Teacher from the Center for Green Schools, as well as many grants for her educational initiatives. Her contributions to environmental education have also been featured in two published books on environmental education.

Ms. Purcell attributes her success to her innate ability to connect with individuals personally by understanding, supporting, inspiring and empowering them. As a reading/language arts teacher, she fostered her students' love of books and expression through writing. As a social studies teacher, she helped her students find their voice through advocacy. Looking toward the future, Ms. Purcell remains passionate about environmental stewardship.
