A senior machine learning engineer at Adobe, Dr. Roy has been instrumental in advancing the field of machine learning and human-computer interaction. With a focus on explainable artificial intelligence, he has contributed significantly to the development of systems that enhance model transparency. His work in this area includes a multidisciplinary project on building a multifaceted video analysis system that received funding from DARPA for its creative use of graphical models to generate high-fidelity explanations for a wide variety of human-AI tasks. The initiative resulted in multiple published papers, underscoring his commitment to bridging the gap between complex machine learning models and their practical applications.

Dr. Roy began his career at Adobe as a machine learning engineer from 2022 to 2024, where he utilized his skills in building, modeling and deploying machine learning pipelines. His expertise at Adobe lies in the development and research of explainable machine learning pipelines for propensity and lifetime value modeling. Prior to reaching his current role at Adobe, he was a data science intern at Adobe in 2021, during which he worked on a research project that studied methods of explaining time-wise feature contributions to customer lifetime value predictions.

Before joining Adobe, Dr. Roy served as a graduate research assistant at The University of Texas at Dallas from 2018 to 2022. During this time, he was involved in groundbreaking research that laid the foundation for his future endeavors in explainable artificial intelligence and probabilistic graphical models. He also worked as a graduate teaching assistant at the same university from 2016 to 2017, aiding in courses focused on data structures, artificial intelligence, and statistical machine learning.

Dr. Roy began his professional journey as a programmer analyst at Cognizant from 2013 to 2016, where he developed his technical skills and worked on various applications of the SAS suite of software for statistical analysis in a wide variety of environments. His initial exposure to the field came through a technical internship at CommVault in 2013, which set the stage for his subsequent achievements.

Academically, Dr. Roy earned a Doctor of Philosophy in computer science in 2022 and a Master of Science in computer science in 2021, both from The University of Texas at Dallas. He also holds a Bachelor of Technology in computer science from Vellore Institute of Technology. His educational endeavors laid a strong foundation for his pioneering work in science and technology.

A prolific writer, Dr. Roy has co-authored influential publications including "Dynamic Cutset Networks," presented at the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Statistics in 2021, and "Anchoring Bias Affects Mental Model Formation and User Reliance in Explainable AI Systems," which was highlighted at the International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces and further recognized with an honorable mention for the event's best paper award. He has also participated in several projects focused on explainable artificial intelligence and has reviewed extensively for multiple journals and conferences including the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Statistics (AISTATS), and the Transactions on Machine Learning Research (TMLR), highlighting his ability to spread knowledge through various mediums.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Roy enjoys reading research papers and learning human languages. Looking to the future, he remains driven by a desire to bridge the gap between academic research and its industrial applications, particularly within explainable artificial intelligence. His goals reflect his ongoing commitment to advancing technology while ensuring its accessibility and transparency for broader audiences.
