As the senior mechanical integrity advisor at California Resources Corporation, Mr. Smith is responsible for preserving the integrity of pressure equipment and piping through nondestructive techniques like ultrasonic testing and radiography. He ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines and code regulations while also serving as a Federal Aviation Administration-certified remote drone pilot, conducting inspections and aerial evaluations across various lease sites in California. His oversight extends to operations in Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Sacramento and Ventura, where he manages multiple contractors to perform testing and evaluates data to calculate corrosion rates and equipment longevity.

Prior to joining California Resources, Mr. Smith was a fixed equipment inspector at Chevron from 2014 to 2018. During this time, he honed his skills in inspecting and maintaining the safety and functionality of pressure equipment. From 2007 to 2014, he worked as a pressure equipment inspector at Tesoro, following in the footsteps of his father who was an equipment analyst at the same refinery. His early career included roles as an American Petroleum Institute (API) inspector at Pacific Technical Services from 2003 to 2007 and as a nondestructive evaluation (NDE) inspector at Conam Inspections from 2001 to 2003.

Mr. Smith's professional journey is complemented by his active membership in industry-related organizations such as the Association for Materials Protection and Performance, the American Petroleum Institute and the American Welding Society. Equally dedicated to enhancing his community, he served as a volunteer firefighter during his time at Tesoro and has been involved with the International Bird Rescue and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in bird nesting area preparation projects. He also gained valuable international experience during a two-month engagement in South Africa in 2017, during which he managed turnaround activities of a large refinery and interacted with diverse cultures and environments.

To augment his knowledge and expertise, Mr. Smith is certified as an internal corrosion technologist by NACE International. Additionally, he is a certified deputy pressure vessel inspector, level 2 coatings inspector and welding inspector. Expanding his qualifications in multiple public safety sectors, he is certified in CPR and first aid and is recognized as a level 2 advanced exterior industrial firefighter by the University of Nevada, Reno.

In his personal life, Mr. Smith cherishes spending quality time with his two children, offshore fishing, golfing, camping and hiking. Regarding his future goals, he aspires to advance within California Resources Corporation by becoming a lead inspector and eventually taking on the role of mechanical integrity manager for the entire organization. His ambitions are driven by the steadfast support of his family, guidance from his father, encouragement from peers and mentors and a supportive management team, all of whom continue to be pivotal in his professional and personal development.
