NEW YORK, NY, May 28, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lisa Medina has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who biographical volumes, individual profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.
Ms. Medina, a powerhouse in the fashion industry, has served as the CEO of Detour Apparel Inc. since 2003. Originally established as a fashion-buying service aimed at optimizing retail clients' investments in women's apparel trends, Detour Apparel has evolved into a leading supplier of young contemporary women's fashion. Committed to quality at accessible prices, the company introduces new items weekly to stay ahead of market trends. Its flagship label, Hunter & Brown, operates manufacturing facilities in Vietnam, India, and China, while its 21Saints products are produced in Mexico for expedited shipping. Detour Apparel is proudly recognized as a NYS-certified Minority Women-Owned Business.
Ms. Medina's career trajectory is marked by her ability to envision, adapt and innovate. Her journey began with a summer job as a receptionist at a fabric brokerage, a busy environment in which she thrived. Inspired by the textile market and seeing her superiors' close deals, she decided to pursue a career in this business even though her school chancellor told her this business she discovered did not exist. On the advice of her bosses at the brokerage, she enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City while working full-time to fund her studies in textile marketing.
Ms. Medina's early career included a role as a paper design sales assistant to the Better Fashion Apparel Market, followed by a salesperson position for a trim company. She then opened a buying service followed by becoming the chief merchandising officer for a Mexican Specialty retail chain called AB - Adrian Bortoni (Lavoro), where she played a key role in expanding the company's retail and wholesale presence. She returned to NYC and relaunched her buying service, this time working with U.S. specialty retail and corporate stores.
When she felt the market shift and saw the irrelevancy of a buying service, Ms. Medina decided to innovate. In collaboration with a friend from California, she launched a brand called SHINESTAR, which grew to approximately $50 million in five years. This achievement validated her strategies and demonstrated that her products resonated well with customers, marking a career highlight. When her business partner and her amicably parted ways, Ms. Medina re-launched the Detour model. Since then, the company has thrived despite the challenges posed by ever-changing market conditions, standing as a testament to her resilience and foresight.
A proud member of the Women in Retail Leadership Circle (WIRLC), Ms. Medina attributes her success to her relentless drive and determination. She describes herself as being "like dog with a bone" when tackling a challenge and always moving forward.
Ms. Medina approaches projects with deep dedication and depth, fully immersing herself in the possibilities they present. When challenges arise, she reassesses, adapts, and presses forward, recognizing that every setback holds the potential for new opportunities.
Beyond her professional pursuits, she is deeply committed to personal growth and fostering community. She finds great fulfillment in empowering young women by introducing them to the industry and culture, providing access to networks, and exposing them to opportunities and resources they might not have otherwise encountered. Seeing others grow under her leadership fills her with profound pride.
She cherishes time with family and friends, nurturing meaningful relationships with both current and former colleagues. Her faith is a cornerstone of her life—Sunday church services bring her a deep sense of fulfillment and peace, a sentiment shared by those with unwavering belief. As a devoted Catholic, she is preparing to take the meaningful step of being baptized as an adult.
Looking ahead, Ms. Medina is dedicated to expanding Detour Apparel into a vertically integrated enterprise, navigating the evolving retail landscape with a balanced approach to direct-to-consumer and wholesale strategies while capturing new markets. She has launched Hunter&Brown.co, an e-commerce platform designed to enhance brand recognition and establish a stronger digital presence.
Ultimately, her vision extends beyond business growth, she aspires to pass the company into the hands of her employees, ensuring a legacy built on innovation, creativity, collaboration and giving back.
