Her efforts in grant management from 2012 to 2018 were instrumental in securing approximately $3 million to support diverse educational programs.

Before her tenure at Morningside University, Ms. Nielsen was an elementary principal and curriculum director for the OABCIG Community School District from 1996 to 2001. Her leadership in these roles was characterized by her commitment to academic excellence and her ability to foster a nurturing learning environment. Before stepping into administrative roles, Ms. Nielsen dedicated herself to teaching kindergarten and third grade at Battle Creek Public Schools between 1973 and 1996, honing her classroom management and student engagement skills.

Ms. Nielsen's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Upper Iowa University in 1973. She furthered her education with a Master of Science in education in elementary administration from Drake University in 1992, followed by an Education Specialist degree from the same institution in 1996. These academic achievements laid the foundation for Ms. Nielsen's successful career, equipping her with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in various educational roles.

Complementing her professional accomplishments, Ms. Nielsen received several credentials that reflect her commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. She has been a member of the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, the National Association for Multicultural Education, the National Association for Bilingual Education, the Iowa Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and the National Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, underscoring her commitment to advancing educational standards. In addition to her professional endeavors, Ms. Nielsen is deeply involved in civic activities.
