When Merrill Lynch sold its real estate division to Prudential, which decided thereafter to franchise the company, Ms. Herman purchased Prudential Long Island Realty in 1990. Following this feat, Prudential Long Island Realty became a leading brokerage on Long Island and in the Hamptons, preparing Ms. Herman for her next move to purchase Douglas Elliman with her business partner, Howard Lorber. As such, in 2003, Ms. Herman acquired Douglas Elliman, the largest and most prestigious brokerage firm in Manhattan, solidifying her reputation as the most successful woman in real estate. In addition to its strong presence in the United States, Douglas Elliman has an international reputation, having forged a strategic alliance with London-based Knight Frank Residential for business in global luxury markets spanning six continents and 60 countries.

Concurrently, Ms. Herman hosts "Eye on Real Estate," an AM970 radio show that, since it first aired in 2010, provides listeners with sharp insights into emerging trends and developments in the real estate and finance sectors. She also launched "Real Talk" in 2023, a show that discusses the personal journeys and experiences of industry experts who have overcome challenges while pursuing success. Ms. Herman contributes to many charitable organizations and funds, including the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts and The Sunrise Fund at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

Throughout her career, Ms. Herman has earned several accolades for her real estate prowess and was named "America's Richest Self-Made Woman in Real Estate" by Forbes in 2016. The following year, she was bestowed with the prominent Business Pioneer Award during the United Nations Women's Entrepreneurship Day. Previously, Ms. Herman earned the Distinguished Community Leadership Award at the 12th Annual Heart of the Hamptons Gala in 2008, received the Outstanding New Yorker Award from the Guardian Angels in 2009, and was honored among the 50 Most Powerful Women in New York by Crain's New York Business in both 2009 and 2011.
