Founded and instructed at Puget Sound Windsurfing from 1983 to 2006, where she combined her passion for water sports with teaching. Her early career focused on her first company, designing and building custom kayaks, Designs for Action® from 1971 to 1999, reflecting her lifelong interest in outdoor activities and craftsmanship.
Ms. Wallace's academic background provided her with many of the skills necessary to excel in business management, systems design, and leadership roles. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Development from Central Washington University in 1981, graduating cum laude / student body President at West Campus, and joined professional organizations: ASPA and PNPMA. Furthermore, she holds a degree in Horticulture, which complements her work with Ecopods and Fibershed Hawaii, by integrating environmental sustainability into her designs and community skill building.
Ms. Wallace's dedication to environmental causes is further evidenced by her involvement as the Hawaii State Chair for the Environmental Caucus on Food and Farm Sustainability from 2016 to 2018. She is also a member of A.A.U.W, a Women's Alumni Association, demonstrating her commitment to empowering women in various fields. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Wallace has been recognized for her contributions to peace and social unity with the 1991 Peace Award from Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility.
She is also the author of "Fiber Book: A Technical Textile Reference Guide," sharing her research in the history and applications for well-established as well as more recently manufactured innovative textiles. Outside of her professional life, Ms. Wallace was born in Seattle and is a proud mother of one community-active daughter, who she considers the torch bearer for compassion communities.
Passionate about adventuring and enjoying the outdoors, her personal interests include windsurfing, kayaking, sailing and skiing. Looking to the future with optimism, she seeks to enrich the environment through her work while simplifying her own lifestyle, moving from city to farm to sailboat to off-grid jungle yurt to oceanside treehouse ~ aligning her professional goals with her lifelong commitment to sustainability and personal growth.
