As an associate director at CBS News from 1972 to 1976, Mr. Fishman was part of the special events unit, covering elections, conventions and more. He also contributed to the CBS morning and evening news shows and "60 Minutes." He began his career after earning a Bachelor of Science in broadcasting and film from Boston University in 1970.

In 2023, Mr. Fishman received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Directors Guild of America at their annual dinner and awards ceremony in Los Angeles. This honor had only been awarded five times before to an individual working in television and never to a sports director. This recognition stood out as his crowning achievement, highlighting his significant contributions to the television industry.
