SAN JOSE, CA, June 04, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mashhour Solh, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Marked by significant contributions and leadership roles, Dr. Solh has established a distinguished career at the intersection of AI research and consumer electronics. Serving as a principal applied scientist at Amazon since 2021, he leads a team of more than 30 scientists whose work focuses on shopping automation. His responsibilities involve utilizing advanced technologies such as large language models and agentic systems, showcasing his expertise in cutting-edge innovations. A notable achievement from his team is the development of Amazon's "Buy for Me" feature, an AI-powered tool that enables customers to purchase products from third-party retailers directly within the Amazon Shopping app. This feature leverages agentic AI to autonomously navigate external brand websites, fill in required details, and complete purchases on behalf of users, all without redirecting them or leaving the Amazon platform. Having secured more than 30 patents, his success as an inventor who expands technological boundaries is widely recognized.

In fact, if you have ever asked an Echo smart display or an Echo Dot to recognize a gesture, trusted Ring to spot a visitor, or relied on an edge-AI device that fuses vision, audio and radar, chances are Dr. Solh's algorithms were running behind the scenes – quietly making everyday technology smarter, safer and more helpful.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Solh served as principal applied scientist at Amazon Lab126 — a specialized hardware and R&D team within Amazon — from 2021 to 2024. In this capacity, he was also the head scientist of AI for Camera and Sensors, leading the development of critical inventions in multimodal sensor fusion and advancing the state of the art in perception technologies.

Earlier, from 2014 to 2019, Dr. Solh was a tech lead and senior applied scientist in the Computer Vision and Machine Learning group at Lab126. During this period, he led the development and deployment of Amazon's first in-house machine learning-based human detection system. He also architected pioneering deep-learning pipelines that were deployed in products such as the Fire Phone, Echo Show, Echo Look, and several Ring devices — innovations that laid the foundation for modern smart-home perception features.

Beyond his work at Amazon, Dr. Solh held academic and entrepreneurial roles that broadened his impact. From 2018 to 2023, he served as an adjunct faculty member and lecturer in deep learning at San Jose State University, mentoring and inspiring the next generation of scientists. He was also the founding head of the Computer Vision and Sensor Fusion team at Plato Systems from 2019 to 2022. Additionally, he co-founded Fitlens, serving as its chief technical officer from 2019 to 2020. Fitlens developed AI-powered fitness technology that enabled smartphones to track workouts through camera-based motion analysis.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Solh served as an advanced imaging scientist at Texas Instruments from 2011 to 2014 and was a research assistant at Georgia Institute of Technology from 2007 to 2011. He gained valuable foundational experience as an engineering intern at Qualcomm's Office of the Chief Scientist in 2010 and as a software developer at the National Center for Small Business Information (NCSBI) at Florida Institute of Technology from 2005 to 2006.

Dr. Solh's equally robust academic background laid a strong foundation for his future achievements. He holds a PhD in electrical and computer engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, a master's degree in electrical and computer engineering from Florida Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree in computer and communication engineering from American University of Beirut. To augment his knowledge and qualifications, he was certified in management essentials by Harvard Business School Online in 2025 and completed the Transition to Management course at Cambridge Network in 2024.

Dr. Solh maintains an active presence in professional and community organizations. He was elected to the IEEE Industry DSP Technology Standing Committee in 2015, serving a three-year term that concluded in 2018. In 2012, he served as the session chair for Applications of Video Processing at the Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers. During the 2010–2011 academic year, he held the position of vice president of the Lebanese Club at Georgia Tech. Currently, Dr. Solh contributes to the leadership committee of BayArea LebNet, a nonprofit organization that supports Lebanese-American professionals in the technology sector.

Dr. Solh's accomplishments have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Franklin Antonio Scholarship Award from Qualcomm, the ECE Graduate Research Assistant Excellence Award from Georgia Institute of Technology and several others that highlight his contributions to both academia and industry. Looking ahead with continued determination, he intends to deepen his involvement in AI by developing applications that focus on humanitarian needs, particularly in health care, with the goal of significantly improving people's lives. Additionally, he is dedicated to supporting children affected by crises, endeavoring to build sustainable programs that ensure wider access for qualified students.
