FAYETTEVILLE, NY, June 04, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Julie Kolakowski Corn has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Corn has established a distinguished career in public service and leadership, marked by her current role as commissioner of the Department of Emergency Communications/911 for Onondaga County, a position she has held since 2019. Her tenure in this role is characterized by her commitment to advancing initiatives that support both her organization and the broader 911 community at the state level. She is actively involved in several committees aimed at influencing policy changes, as well as initiatives that prioritize the mental health and wellness of emergency communications staff. She is particularly committed to advocating for 911 operators, a group often overlooked despite facing extreme stress and trauma on a daily basis.
Prior to her current position, Ms. Corn served as communications chief within the United States Department of Defense from 2016 to 2019. In this capacity, she honed her skills in strategic planning and organizational management, which have been pivotal throughout her career. Her journey with the Department of Defense began in 2002, where she initially worked as a project manager and analyst before advancing through various roles, including senior planner, division chief and development program deputy director.
Ms. Corn's academic background laid a strong foundation for her career in defense and intelligence. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in geography from the University of Mary Washington in 2002, which she applied by providing mapping support for the United States Army. Her pursuit of higher education continued with a master's degree in strategic intelligence from the National Intelligence University in 2007. This advanced degree facilitated her transition into intelligence planning and analysis roles within federal agencies such as the Defense Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Corn is an accomplished author and grief advocate. Her children's book, "Spoons: A Family Story of Enduring Loss," published by Seacoast Press in 2024, offers solace to those navigating grief. The book draws from personal experiences and aims to provide comfort to families grappling with loss. She hopes to see it reach grief centers, schools and homes across the country.
Ms. Corn's dedication extends beyond her professional life into civic engagement and personal interests. She volunteers with and supports HOPE For Bereaved in Syracuse, New York and hosts an annual fundraiser called "Derby for the Heart." Her past involvement includes serving as communications director for the Washington, D.C., Metro Chapter of the LPGA Amateur Golf Association and being a member of the Executive Women's Golf Association.
Throughout her career, Ms. Corn has received multiple letters of appreciation from the United States Department of Defense and was nominated for Best Historical Thesis at the National Intelligence University. Her achievements are further underscored by reaching federal government grade GS-15 before age 40 and becoming the youngest and first female commissioner of Onondaga County's nationally accredited 911 Center.
Ms. Corn attributes much of her success to the unwavering support of her father, who was a constant source of encouragement throughout her life. She also acknowledges the influence of mentors who shaped her leadership style and helped navigate her career complexities. Equally important is the support from her children, who serve as an emotional anchor during challenging times.
Her personal life is enriched by her love for cooking, golf, travel and supporting her children's activities. As an avid cook, she runs Orange Apron, a small side business offering catering services for family and friends. A former collegiate softball player, Ms. Corn continues her passion for sports by playing golf and serving as an assistant coach on her son's baseball team.
As she looks to the future, Ms. Corn remains focused on making meaningful progress in advocating for improved retirement options and enhanced health programs for 911 operators across New York State while continuing to promote her children's book to reach those who need it most.
