In 1976, Mr. Walzer was acquired by Akron Public Schools, where he spent the next 30 years teaching mathematics, science and history to students in grades five through nine before retiring in 2006. During this time, he also coached soccer and track, fostering a love for sports and teamwork among his students.

After retiring from full-time teaching, Mr. Walzer contributed to education as a substitute teacher in Summit County Schools from 2008 to 2019. His passion and dedication to education and his students were well-recognized, as he was known for integrating practical experiences into his lessons, such as using the long jump pit visible from his classroom window to teach earth science concepts. Mr. Walzer's innovative approaches engaged students and demonstrated the importance of hands-on learning.

As a coach, Mr. Walzer took pride in ensuring that every athlete had the opportunity to play in games, regardless of their position on the team roster. His commitment to inclusivity was evident in his scheduling competitive matches against top teams outside his league, providing valuable experiences for his players.

Mr. Walzer earned a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Kent State University in 1976. This foundational education equipped Mr. Walzer with the skills necessary to excel in his profession.

In addition to his educational endeavors, Mr. Walzer has been actively involved in civic activities. He has been a dedicated volunteer at The Mustill Store and Museum since 2012. He has also contributed to the Kent State Alumni Association and a local high school scholarship fund. Among other initiatives, Mr. Walzer was a poll worker for the Summit County Board of Elections from 2016 to 2020.
