As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A distinguished professor of English at State University of New York (SUNY) Adirondack, Dr. McCoy has dedicated over three decades of service to education and literature. Since 1999, she has been imparting knowledge on subjects such as poetry writing, women's literature, public speaking, American literature since World War II and world literature. Her commitment to education extends beyond teaching; she also develops curricula, participates in committees and has directed the Writer's Project that invites students to engage with the school's creative writing program. As a further testament to her standing within the field, she served as the college's English Division chair from 2014 to 2017.

Prior to reaching her current role at SUNY Adirondack, Dr. McCoy served as an associate professor from 2004 to 2012. Outside of her teaching roles, she was a freelance writer at Bedford-St. Martin's from 2001 to 2011, during which time she penned the instructor's annotations for all five volumes of Kathleen McWhorter's influential Successful College Writing series. Earlier in her career, she was a research analyst and writer for Research in Media dba Publisher's Research from 1991 to 1996, analyzing focus group data and compiling reports and summaries for educational textbook publishers. Her academic path began at the University of Missouri, Columbia, where she was a graduate teacher from 1982 to 1988 and served as a writing laboratory tutor.

A longstanding expert in poetry, Dr. McCoy is widely recognized as an influential figure in various literary circles. She has been involved with the Association of Writers and Writing Programs since 2010 and has served as the campus liaison for the American Association of University Women from 2015 to 2024. Her affiliations extend to the Adirondack Center for Writing, the Academy of American Poets, the Modern Language Association, the National Council of Teachers of English and the World Poetry Society. Additionally, she is a highly accomplished writer and the author of books such as "Ringing the Changes," published in 2019, "More Water Than Words," released in 2017, and "Green and Burning," published in 2016. She was also a co-editor for Inscape literary magazine and has published numerous poems and articles in professional journals.

Dr. McCoy's educational journey as a student includes a PhD in modern literature in 1991 and a Master of Arts in creative writing at the same institution in 1982, both from the University of Missouri. Two years prior, she graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in honors in English from Georgetown College. To augment her qualifications, she holds multiple SUNY Learning Network online teacher certificates.

Beyond academia, Dr. McCoy is known for her contributions as a civic-minded citizen. She has played pivotal roles such as deacon and choir member at the First Baptist Church of Glens Falls and has volunteered for organizations like Habitat for Humanity.

To commemorate her storied achievements as a teacher, poet and author, Dr. McCoy has been recognized with numerous accolades throughout her career. She received the Chancellor's Award for scholarship and creative activities from SUNY Adirondack in 2017 and was honored with the President's Award for excellence in teaching. Additionally, her creative endeavors have seen her named as a finalist at the Book Excellence Awards, the Gregory O'Donoghue International Poetry Competition and the Fish International Poetry Competition. She was notably featured in multiple editions of Who's Who in the East as well as Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women in the 1990s.

Though her career counts many milestones and personal awards, Dr. McCoy is especially proud of her advancements at SUNY Adirondack. In addition to establishing the American Association of University Women's student branch, she initiated the school's 100 Thousand Poets for Change initiative — a nonprofit organization dedicated to literary arts, poetry and music. She attributes much of her success to her faith, the drive she received from her parents and her twin sister, who is also her best friend. Furthermore, she is immensely grateful to Dr. Lale Davidson and Nancy White for their valuable mentorship and guidance.

In her personal life, Dr. McCoy finds joy in volunteering at her church, blogging, reading and writing. She is currently developing a musical in collaboration with a composer and plans to continue writing poetry while offering tutoring and conducting workshops. Her unwavering dedication to both her professional pursuits and personal passions reflects a legacy of excellence and advancements in education and literature.
