Mr. Laing's professional journey prior to founding Certainty Management includes a variety of roles. For example, from 2009 to 2016, he served as sales director and, later, national sales trainer with Beldon Home Solutions. During his time there, he helped lead the Portland, Oregon sales team to No. 1 in the country, increasing sales from $3.5 million to over $20 million annually in just four years. They became the top-performing office out of 65 locations nationwide.

From 2017 to 2019, Mr. Laing served as vice president of sales for the Northwest Region at NuQuo Group, where he further honed his skills in cost reduction and strategic partnerships and helped save clients a net average of 32% on their printer and copier contracts. This was the first service he offered to clients when he founded Certainty Management.

Mr. Laing's commitment to service began with his military career in the U.S. Army, which he joined when he was 17 years old. He spent his first four years in physical therapy, assisting injured veterans at various medical centers, including the 328th General Hospital in Salt Lake City, Fort Sam Houston Medical Center in San Antonio, and Madigan Hospital at Fort Lewis, Washington. He later transitioned to a role in counterintelligence, working with the world-renowned 142nd Military Intelligence Battalion in Draper, Utah. Additionally, he served as a linguist in Italian, further building and developing his skills in interpretation, analysis, negotiation, and vetting individuals and organizations.

Mr. Laing's contributions have been acknowledged through numerous awards. He received the Business Leadership Excellence Award at the CXO 2.0 Conference in Las Vegas in March 2025 and was invited to be a keynote speaker at their conference in Dubai later that year. In 2018, he was recognized as a sales expert by Local Marketing Vault. His earlier accolades include the President's Club Award from Trendwest Resorts in 2000, where he also received the prestigious Garcia Award for Excellence in Sales, and the Chairman's Club distinction from Beldon Home Solutions in 2014. While working for Delta Airlines in Anchorage, Alaska, he received the Delta Customer Service Citation, the company's top award for customer service.

Mr. Laing has served in multiple organizations, such as Business Network International, the Sandler Sales President's Club, Toastmasters International, Vistage Worldwide, and the LDS Church's Just Serve community service initiative, highlighting his commitment to ongoing professional development, professional networking, and community service.

A graduate of Brigham Young University, Mr. Laing earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with emphases in technical writing and Italian in 2000. During his time at Brigham Young, he helped to co-found the Honors Writing Department peer writing tutor program, The BYU Writing Fellows, showcasing his dedication to mentorship and communication.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of John Charles and Susan Tate Laing, Mr. Laing spent part of his early years in New Zealand and has since resided in Utah, Texas, Alaska, Oregon, California and Henderson, Nevada.
