Prior to founding her consulting firm, Ms. Leon served as the vice president of growth and development at SmartBear in Somerville, Massachusetts, from 2022 to 2024. In this role, she spearheaded the organization's global onboarding and leadership development programs while advocating for self-sufficient, learner-focused working cultures. Her tenure at the software development firm Pegasystems, where she worked from 2014 to 2022, was particularly transformative. As the director of community programs and services, she expanded her team significantly and turned a struggling certification program into a million-dollar business. Her innovative initiatives reached 35,000 people monthly, underscoring her lasting impact on the organization and allowing her to achieve her long-held desire to buy her own home and car.
Ms. Leon's career began with management and development roles that laid the groundwork for her future success. She was the manager of education development at Kronos Incorporated for a decade and held various positions within the Massachusetts Commonwealth Human Resources Division. Her diverse early experiences as a consultant at Work/Family Directions Inc., referral specialist at Child Care Resource Center and student teacher at Tufts Educational Day Care Center honed her skills in training, talent management and curriculum development.
Academically, Ms. Leon earned a Bachelor of Arts in both early childhood education and English from Tufts University in 1994 followed by a Master of Education in instructional design from the University of Massachusetts Boston in 2004. To enhance her knowledge and qualifications in employee development, she obtained an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission certification, allowing her to teach about sexual harassment policies and prevention in the workplace. She also received a diversity, equity and inclusion certification from the University of South Florida. Her initial passion for teaching was ignited during her middle school and high school years when she utilized her bilingual skills to tutor her peers in Spanish. She was also a participant in The Women's Leadership Forum at Harvard Business School in 2019, sharing best leadership practices and new ideas while gaining valuable insights from other talented businesswomen.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Leon is actively involved with several civic organizations, including serving as a board member and events committee member with Respond Inc. since 2022. Her commitment to education is reflected in her volunteer work with Tufts University's reunion committee and pro bono contributions to nonprofit training programs. Her past roles as marketing trustee and secretary for the Computer Education Management Association further highlight her leadership capabilities and dedication to helping others through various mediums.
In addition to her professional milestones, Ms. Leon is an accomplished singer-songwriter with three albums to her name and a fourth in progress. Happily married and a proud mother of one son, she considers her family, her music and helping others to be her greatest passions. Looking ahead, she aims to establish Maggie Leon Consulting as a full-time endeavor while continuing to perform music for personal fulfillment.
