Dr. Arasaratnam began his professional journey with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Peradeniya, graduating with First Class Honours in 2000. He went on to pursue graduate studies at McMaster University, where he earned a Master of Applied Science in 2004 and a Ph.D. in 2008, both in Bridge and Structural Engineering. His doctoral research made a significant impact on the development of national codes and standards governing the behavior of steel under bolted connections.

Beyond his formal degrees, Dr. Arasaratnam is a licensed professional engineer in both the United States and Canada and holds a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute Inc. He is also a member of various esteemed organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Canadian Society of Civil Engineers.
