Ms. Hellmann's career trajectory includes a notable tenure as a columnist for Women's Voices Media LLC, through which she contributed meaningfully to Women's Voices Magazine from 2013 to 2015. Before this, she was an author with Allium Press of Chicago from 2010 to 2013 and Bleak House Books from 2005 to 2010. Ms. Hellmann has also excelled as a trainer in communication skills at Fischer Hellmann Communications since 1985 and as a manager of communications training at Burson-Marsteller between 1978 and 1985.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in honors history from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970 and subsequently pursued graduate studies. Ms. Hellmann completed a Master of Fine Arts in film production from New York University in 1972, after which she joined the NBC news department as assistant film editor and broadcast news producer from 1972 to 1978.

A passion for storytelling prompted Ms. Hellmann to explore her talents as a fiction writer. Today, she is the author of eighteen novels and thirty short stories and cites the publication of her first mystery novel in 2001 as her most notable creative achievement thus far. The book's launch reflected a transition from a focus on filmmaking and surprised even those closest to her, including her mother, an enthusiastic mystery reader. Her second most recent book, "A Bend in the River," won the Chicago Writers Association Best Indie Fiction Award for 2020–2021, and Ms. Hellmann has humbly accepted additional independent organization awards.

A passion for networking and collaboration drives Ms. Hellmann to remain actively involved in organizations such as Mystery Writers of America and Sisters in Crime, of which she was the president in 2006-2007. She is also a member of the Society of Midwest Authors and the Chicago Writers Association. Additionally, Ms. Hellmann's commitment to civic engagement is reflected in her volunteer work with Open Books Chicago from 2007 to 2010. She also supports The Greater Chicago Food Depository.

Ms. Hellmann is a mother to two children and enjoys watching films, reading, traveling and maintaining an active lifestyle. Looking toward the future, she plans to write at least two more books to reach a total of twenty.
