OAKWOOD, OH, June 20, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William Trollinger Jr., PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Trollinger has dedicated over four decades to history and religious studies, establishing himself as a distinguished professor at the University of Dayton (UD) since 1996, where he also served for twelve years as the director of the Core Integrated Studies Program. His tenure at the university has been marked by many distinctions, notable among these the university's 2017 Alumni Award in Teaching, a testament to his commitment to education and his ability to inspire students.

Prior to his position at UD, Dr. Trollinger served as an assistant professor of history at the College of the Ozarks in Branson, Missouri, from 1984 to 1988, and then as an associate professor of history at Messiah University in Grantham, Pennsylvania, from 1988 to 1996, where he also received a teaching excellence award.

Dr. Trollinger's professional achievements are rooted in his educational background. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1984 and 1980, respectively, following a Bachelor of Arts from Bethel University in Minnesota in 1977. Despite not coming from an academic family, he discovered his love for history during his studies at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and he found joy in teaching while working as a teaching assistant during his doctoral program. Overall, he attributes his success to following his heart and to his wonderful mentors at the University of Wisconsin, who continued to guide and support him long after he had received his Ph.D.

Affiliated with several professional organizations, Dr. Trollinger is a member of the American Historical Association, the American Society of Church History, the Ohio Academy of History and the Organization of American Historians. He is a speaker for the Ohio Humanities Council as well as the past president of the Conference on Faith and History. He is associate editor of "Foundations: A Publication of the American Baptist Historical Society," having also served on the editorial boards of "Mid-America: A Historical Journal and Mennonite Life." All of this demonstrates his contributions to and leadership within the academic community.

Dr. Trollinger has published numerous scholarly articles, as well as books, including "God's Empire: William Bell Riley and the Making of American Fundamentalism," which has a second edition set for release in 2026, and "Righting America at the Creation Museum," which he co-authored with Susan Trollinger and was published in 2016. He has been recognized with awards, such as the Catholic Press Award for Best Essay in a Scholarly Magazine in 2014, the History of Education Society Book Award in 1992, and the "Christianity Today" Best in Theology Award in 1989. Additionally, he has received grants from the Lilly Endowment, the Louisville Institute for the Study of Protestantism and American Culture, and the American Historical Association.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Trollinger enjoys reading, walking and spending time with his family, which includes four children and four grandchildren. In the upcoming years, he plans to retire from academia and collaborate with his wife on writing additional books and articles, continuing to contribute to historical scholarship even after stepping away from formal teaching roles.
