Mr. Waala's career is marked by a distinguished trajectory in the field of cybersecurity, culminating in his role as a cybersecurity architect at Wisamu Enterprises LLC. Now retired, he has dedicated his time as a virtual chief information security officer, providing strategic guidance to organizations on safeguarding their digital assets. Prior to these appointments, Mr. Waala served as a senior security engineer contractor for OnDemandGroup from 2021 to 2023, where he was instrumental in fortifying the security infrastructure of various clients.

Earlier in his career, in 2020, Mr. Waala accepted the role of senior security architect for a medical system in Minnesota, where he was responsible for designing and implementing robust security measures to protect sensitive health care data. His expertise was further honed during his tenure as the global information security senior managing director at Zebra Technologies from 2018 to 2020. There, he led initiatives that significantly enhanced the company's cybersecurity posture on a global scale.

Mr. Waala's prior roles include serving as an SOC engineer level III at Allstate Insurance in 2018 and as an information security senior manager at Anixter in 2017. From 2015 to 2017, he was the information security incident response directing manager at Tenneco, where he developed strategies to effectively respond to and mitigate security incidents. His foundational experience was built during his time at Digi-Key Corporation from 2009 to 2015, where he held multiple positions, including information security officer and PCI internal security assessor.

Throughout his career, Mr. Waala has been actively involved with industry-related organizations such as CISSP and CompTIA. His commitment to professional development is evident through his extensive list of certifications from Microsoft, LinkedIn, Coursera and CompTIA, including the Certified Information Systems Security Professional from ICS2 and the Certified Ethical Hacker from EC-Council. These credentials have equipped him with the skills necessary to tackle complex cybersecurity challenges.

Mr. Waala's educational background includes coursework in Japanese studies at the University of Minnesota. He received a Master of Divinity in pastoral studies and missiology from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in 1989. He also holds an Associate of Applied Science in fine and studio arts and cross-cultural studies from Pillsbury Baptist Bible College, which he completed in 1984. His diverse academic pursuits have contributed to his holistic approach to problem-solving and leadership.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Waala has made significant contributions to his community through civic involvement. He served as the director of Midwest Food Cooperatives Multi-State for Catholic Charities USA from 2007 to 2008. Additionally, he is an accomplished artist who creates portraits and paintings for special occasions. In his personal life, Mr. Waala cherishes his roots in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and values the influence of his upbringing on his success. He attributes much of his accomplishments to the positive attitude instilled by his parents. Looking ahead, Mr. Waala plans to return to Japan with his family.
