MIAMI, FL, June 26, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Suzanne Delehanty has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Known for her contributions to contemporary art and museum leadership, Ms. Delehanty is a highly respected figure in the art world. As the principal of Suzanne Delehanty LLC since 2006, she offers strategic planning and art advisory services that connect art, artists and communities. Her work focuses on strengthening museums' connections with students and engaging diverse audiences. Reflecting her impact within the field, her clientele has included such prestigious establishments as the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian; she is currently the curator and art advisor for Miami Cancer Institute and its arts initiative.

From 2009 to 2014, Ms. Delehanty paused her consulting practice to serve as the director of the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, successfully enhancing its reputation and outreach. Before her tenure at Rutgers, she was the founding director of the Miami Art Museum — now known as the Pérez Art Museum Miami — from 1995 to 2005. Under her leadership, the museum was privatized, established a permanent collection and prioritized educational initiatives. She also played a pivotal role in securing a prominent waterfront site for the museum and led successful efforts to secure $100 million in capital funds for a new museum facility from the Miami-Dade County General Obligation Bond program.

Ms. Delehanty's career began at the University of Pennsylvania's Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in the late 1960s where she discovered her passion for contemporary art while balancing part-time work with her graduate studies in ancient art. In 1971 she was appointed director of the ICA and served in that capacity until 1978. She directed the Neuberger Museum of Art of the State University of New York at Purchase from 1978 to 1988. Then she led the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston from 1989 to 1993.

At each of these institutions, Ms. Delehanty created adventurous programs and curated groundbreaking exhibitions and publications, including the first museum surveys of the work of Agnes Martin, Cy Twombly, Paul Thek and Carlos Alfonzo, among others. She is also known for showcasing young artists in Philadelphia, Houston and Miami and organizing notable thematic exhibitions, among them, Video Art, which was selected to represent the United States at the Sao Paulo Biennial in 1975, Soundings of 1981, the first exploration of the interconnection of music, acoustics and the visual arts in the United States, and The Window in Twentieth-Century Art. Her writings about art and artists have been reprinted in books published by Schirmer/Mosel, Munich; MIT Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts; the Miro Foundation, Barcelona; and Blackwood Gallery, University of Toronto, with Charivari Press in Canada.

Throughout her career, Ms. Delehanty has served on various boards and advisory committees, among them, the Federal Advisory Committee on International Exhibitions, the Committee for Art in Public Spaces for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the Advisory Council for Art for the Twenty-first Century. She is currently president of the Donna Dennis Art Foundation, Inc.

Ms. Delehanty's contributions have been recognized with the following awards and honors: in 2018 she received the Leadership Award from Florida Art Table; she was honored by the International Women's Committee of the Perez Art Museum, Miami in 2020; and in 2025, she was inducted into the Miami-Dade Arts Hall of Fame.

Ms. Delehanty is an emeritus member of the Association of Art Museum Directors and a member of the International Women's Forum. Long dedicated to community service and helping others, she is associated with civic-minded organizations like the Refugee Assistance Alliance, which supports refugees in learning the English language, gaining employment, economic stability, and a path to citizenship. She is also on the advisory committee for DASH, Miami's Design Arts Senior High School.

Ms. Delehanty's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in art history from Skidmore College and graduate studies in art history at the University of Pennsylvania. She has also participated in executive training programs at Columbia, Harvard and Yale universities. Though she initially planned to become an archaeologist, her career path shifted when she discovered her affinity for contemporary art while working at ICA. This passion has been a driving force behind her success and continues to influence her work today.

Outside of her professional life, Ms. Delehanty enjoys traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. Looking to the future, she plans to focus on promoting democracy and addressing environmental challenges alongside her continued involvement in the arts and education, reflecting her commitment to making a positive impact beyond her career achievements.
