ROBBINSVILLE, NC, June 30, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Erik Oswalt has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Oswalt has embarked on a distinguished career journey, marked by his current role as the executive director of Snowbird NEST, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the Cherokee language and culture. Since June 2024, he has overseen the school in an administrative capacity, ensuring that the right individuals are in place to support the organization's mission.
Under Mr. Oswalt's leadership, Snowbird NEST employs over five full-time teachers, along with specialized instructors in crafts and cooking, a grant writer and an accountant. His commitment to education is further demonstrated by his plans to partner with a neighboring daycare to introduce a program for children aged four to five, as well as his efforts to expand after-school and summer programs.
Mr. Oswalt's deep-rooted connection to Snowbird NEST stems from its founding by his mother, who dedicated her life to teaching Native American names and the Cherokee language. Following her passing in 2017, he took on the responsibility of running the nonprofit organization after retiring from law enforcement.
Before he transitioned into the nonprofit sector, Mr. Oswalt served with distinction as a captain in the Cherokee Indian Police Department for 25 years. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role as a field training officer, imparting knowledge and skills to rookie officers over a 12-week period following their completion of law enforcement degrees. Mr. Oswalt's dedication to law enforcement extended beyond traditional duties, having served as a police K9 instructor, training dogs for the local sheriff's department's canine units. This achievement opened doors for him to join the federal drug task force, further enhancing his career.
Mr. Oswalt's educational background laid the foundation for his successful career. He attended the local and federal police academies, where he honed his skills and acquired an advanced law enforcement certificate. These academic achievements played a crucial role in shaping Mr. Oswalt's approach to law enforcement and community service.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Oswalt is actively involved in civic organizations and serves on several boards. His commitment to community service is evident in his ongoing efforts to promote cultural continuity through language education. Every Wednesday, he facilitates sessions where children and their parents dedicate time to learning the Native American language, fostering its use at home.
Looking ahead, Mr. Oswalt envisions expanding Snowbird NEST's reach by partnering with neighboring countries and exploring the possibility of opening a private school. He recently met with the chief of the tribe to discuss these initiatives and remains committed to enhancing educational opportunities for children within and beyond the community.
