Her leadership was pivotal in managing over 90% of Southwire's revenue through comprehensive product and application oversight. Affiliated with Southwire since 2010, Dr. Hawig has advanced through various roles, beginning as a director of cable and system engineering for utility, then director of energy and OEM engineering, and senior director of electrical development of construction system solutions.

Highly educated, Dr. Hawig received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from National Taiwan University in 1997, followed by a Master of Science in polymer science and engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy in polymer science and engineering from Case Western Reserve University in 1999 and 2002, respectively. Dr. Hawig's education has been complemented by numerous certifications, including electrical distribution principles from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2014 and management accounting from Cornell University in 2021.

Besides her full-time commitments in the industry, Dr. Hawig's professional achievements have been further highlighted by her involvement with industry-related organizations. As a leader in her field, her publications on sustainable product attributes and underground electrical systems have contributed significantly to industry knowledge.

Among other notable involvement, Dr. Hawig has served as a management board representative at the National Electric Energy Testing, Research & Applications Center (NEETRAC), which is part of Georgia Institute of Technology's College of Engineering, since 2015.

Dr. Hawig's contributions to innovations have been recognized with several patents, including those for electrical transmission cables with composite cores and UV-resistant superhydrophobic coating compositions. She has also received accolades, including the Fearless Women in Technology Award, issued by Women in Technology (WIT) in 2025, and the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers' (SASE) Career Achievement Award in 2022 and 2023.
