Ms. Eastman has dedicated her career to the field of history. She is currently the agency historian for the Defense Commissary Agency, a position she has held since 2017. Prior to this position, she served as the Deputy Historian from 2009-2017. In this role, Eastman is responsible for overseeing the historical program at the Defense Commissary Agency. She writes historical articles for a magazine, prepares scripts and acts in commercial videos for the agency, and preserves historical photos and documents. She documents and communicates the agency's history to a broader audience.
Prior to working for the Defense Commissary Agency, Eastman was a costumed historical interpreter and education specialist at some historical sites in Virginia. Her early experiences laid a strong foundation for her future endeavors in historical research and education.
In preparation for her future, Ms. Eastman received a Bachelor of Arts in history in 2011, followed by a Master of Arts in history in 2013 and a Master of Arts in mass communication in 2017 from Virginia State University. These educational achievements have been instrumental in her ability to conduct thorough research and effectively communicate historical narrative.
In addition to her professional roles, Ms. Eastman is actively involved in civic organizations including serving as a regional historian and volunteer in Petersburg and Colonial Heights, Virginia. She has made significant contributions to historical literature and media, authoring books such as "The Pirate Trial of Anne Bonny & Mary Read" and "The Great Fire of Petersburg, Virginia." She has also made a documentary film on childbirth in 18th century Virginia.
Ms. Eastman's notable accomplishments include winning the Fort Lee, Virginia Outstanding Civilian Service Award. She credits her success and passion for history to her father who nurtured her from early childhood as a history enthusiast.
Ms. Eastman enjoys writing and is in the early stages of writing her first historical fiction novel. She plans to retire after reaching 20 years with the Defense Commissary Agency when she'll travel to historic sites and complete her fiction novel. Her enduring passion for history continues to drive her professional and personal pursuits.
