In 2019, he transitioned to the New York office, where he has led significant projects, including the deep energy retrofit of the Empire State Building and the New Gilder Center at the American Museum of Natural History. His technical acumen was further demonstrated through his involvement in the Powerhouse Arts facility project in Brooklyn and the Albright Knox Museum in Buffalo, both of which presented complex challenges that he adeptly navigated.
Mr. Booth's career trajectory is underscored by his commitment to technical excellence and strategic growth. As a decarbonization expert at Buro Happold, he has been pivotal in establishing technical standards and integrating lessons learned from past projects into future endeavors. His leadership encompasses addressing technical and commercial challenges, rebuilding trust and enhancing client engagements.
Prior to his current roles, Mr. Booth served as managing director for Buro Happold in Poland from 2007 to 2019. During this period, he established the MEP department and grew the office from 25 to 150 members and spearheaded numerous industrial and commercial developments. His ability to deliver complex projects was exemplified by his work on Europe's tallest building, Warsaw one, and the Museum of Modern Art, in Warsaw.
Mr. Booth's early career was shaped by his tenure at Ove Arup (now Arup) in the UK, Poland and the USA, from 1995 to 2007. Here, he honed his skills in design and construction, managing projects for General Motors, Gillette, Valeo, Philip Morris and contributing to Y2K preparations for Chase Manhattan across the United States.
A graduate of Northumbria University with a Bachelor of Engineering in building services engineering in 1995, Mr. Booth's educational background laid the foundation for his successful career. His passion for engineering was ignited at a young age, influenced by his father's work and driven by an entrepreneurial spirit shaped by his upbringing. This dedication to delivering quality results without unnecessary expenditure has been a hallmark of his professional journey.
In recognition of his contributions to sustainable engineering, Mr. Booth has received numerous accolades, including being named Sustainable Consultant of the Year for two consecutive years and winning the Pascal Innovation Awards for innovative ventilation solutions seven times consecutively. He is also an active member of industry organizations, including the Urban Green Council, the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers in the United Kingdom and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Booth is committed to mentoring future engineers and sharing his expertise through lectures. He enjoys spending time with his three children and engaging in hobbies such as rebuilding classic cars, skiing, biking and traveling. Looking ahead, Mr. Booth plans to focus on teaching and mentorship while continuing to contribute to significant projects such as reducing carbon emissions at the Empire State Building by 2030.
