BRONX, NY, July 02, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rosemarie E. Parreno, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Dr. Parreno has dedicated over 55 years to the field of education, establishing herself as an expert in English as a Second Language (ESL). Since 2016, she has served as an ESL instructor at the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center, where her expertise and dedication have significantly contributed to the language skills development of numerous students. Recently, Dr. Parreno co-founded GATE (Global Association for Training and Employment) with three other individuals, and it is set to launch in New York and New Jersey.

Before her current position, Dr. Parreno was an ESL teacher with the Department of Education and the City University of New York for three decades. Her tenure allowed her to influence a diverse student body, fostering a love for language and learning. Before moving to the U.S., Dr. Parreno spent over 10 years as a public school teacher in the Philippines, where she laid the foundation for her illustrious career in education.

Dr. Parreno's experience also includes five years as an ESOL instructor and supervisor at a refugee processing center at the International Catholic Migration Commission, sponsored by UNHCR and run by Americans from different states. There, she taught Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, and Chinese refugees bound for resettlement in the U.S. Additionally, she spent seven years as an ESOL instructor and education manager at a drug rehabilitation center, where she taught ESL to incarcerated adults and individuals with substance abuse disorders who sought self-improvement through education.

Dr. Parreno's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from West Visayas State University in the Philippines in 1969. She furthered her studies as a teacher exchange scholar at Northern Illinois University in 1986. In 2000, she earned a master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Adelphi University in New York. Dr. Parreno's academic pursuits culminated in a Doctor of Philosophy in English language education from Cagayan State University in the Philippines in 2022. These educational achievements have been pivotal in her success as an educator and mentor.

Dr. Parreno's commitment to education is further exemplified by her role as a national adviser for the United Federation of Fil-Am Educators. She also remains active through her membership in Kappa Delta Phi. Actively involved in civic organizations, Dr. Parreno is affiliated with the Pan American Concerned Citizens Action League and serves as a teacher, mentor and volunteer with the Filipino-American Neighborhood Education Employment Agency Services. Her commitment to community service underscores her dedication to making a positive impact beyond the classroom.

Recognized as an accomplished author and songwriter, Dr. Parreno penned "Surviving the Life of an Immigrant in New York City" via Xlibris in 2016, and has written a dozen different songs that reflect her creative spirit. Looking ahead, she plans to write various types of books aimed at meeting the needs of students. Additionally, Dr. Parreno aspires to establish a program for immigrants and encourage other educators to pursue careers as ESL teachers.

Dr. Parreno's remarkable contributions to education have been recognized through numerous awards, including over 25 teaching accolades from various organizations. Notably, she was named ESL Teacher of the Year by The New York Times in 2009 and received the Outstanding Alumnus of the World honor from her alma mater that same year. In 2025, Dr. Parreno will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the United Federation of Fil-Am Educators.
