Having begun her career with an illustrious tenure in the U.S. Navy, Mrs. Hughes served her country from 1995 to 2015. She achieved the rank of chief hospital corpsman, a position attained by only 3% of U.S. Navy personnel. This accomplishment stands as one of her most significant achievements, as it allowed her to effect change and mentor sailors who went on to become great leaders themselves. In addition to her role as a chief hospital corpsman in the medical department for reserve personnel at Little Creek, Virginia, Mrs. Hughes excelled as an aviation medical technician with the HSL-60 helicopter squadron in Jacksonville, Florida. Additionally, she worked as a pharmacy technician at various clinics and hospitals in Fort Worth and San Diego.
Academically, Mrs. Hughes holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri, which she earned in 2012. Her educational background has been instrumental in her ability to understand and effectively advocate for her clients. Mrs. Hughes's commitment to service extends beyond her professional duties. She is an active member of several organizations that support veterans and community development, including the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. She is also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, is a founding member of Impact100 Global Veterans, serves on the board of the Community Development District in Hillsborough County, Florida, and contributes to the Transitional Housing Board. Moreover, Mrs. Hughes has volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
Deeply motivated by personal experiences that have shaped her advocacy work, Mrs. Hughes was initially inspired by her grandmother's needs and her twin brother's challenges with medical documentation. Dedicated to supporting others who require assistance navigating complex health care systems, she also aims to complete her master's degree in psychology and obtain additional certifications in ethics and advocacy to enhance her ability to support her clients effectively. Through her diverse experiences and unwavering dedication to service, Mrs. Hughes exemplifies leadership and compassion in every aspect of her life.
Mrs. Hughes is marred to Eddie Hughes, and is a bonus mom to two adults, Manuel and Ryan, and a nana to August.
