Dr. Huth's career began at the Benjamin Rush Center for Mental Health in Philadelphia in 1980. Initially working as a clinician in the outpatient department, she quickly advanced to director of outpatient services. Her leadership and innovative approaches significantly contributed to the center's success during her tenure, which lasted until 1987. Following this role, Dr. Huth joined Psychiatric Care Associates in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, from 1988 to 1997. Her work there further solidified her reputation as an expert in psychological care.
In 1998, Dr. Huth transitioned to Evergreen Counseling and Psychological Associates LLC as a part-time psychologist. She remained with the organization until 2006, when she decided to focus on private practice at her home office while caring for her husband. Throughout her career, Dr. Huth has been recognized for her ability to connect with clients of all ages and backgrounds. Her expertise has led insurance companies to seek her services for older clients.
Dr. Huth's academic journey laid a strong foundation for her professional achievements. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in physiology and chemistry from Mount Holyoke College in 1955 before pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology and counseling at Bryn Mawr College, where she graduated in 1977. Her educational pursuits were supported by her husband Edward J. Huth, MD, whose encouragement was instrumental in her decision to further her studies while balancing family responsibilities.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Huth is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association and the Philadelphia Psychology Network, formerly known as the Philadelphia Society of Clinical Psychologists. Her involvement in these associations reflects her commitment to staying informed about advancements in psychology and contributing to the broader professional community.
Dr. Huth's contributions extend beyond clinical practice into academia and civic engagement. She has authored numerous publications, including "Married Women's Work Status: The Influence of Parents and Husbands" in the Journal of Patient Behavior, "The Limits of Vocational Testing for Women" in the Journal of College Placement, "Measuring Women's Interests: How Useful?" in the Personnel and Guidance Journal and "Married Women's Work Status: The Influence of Parents and Husbands" in the Journal of Vocational Behavior. Her editorial work includes "Return Engagement: A Women's Guide to Part-time Work and Study in Philadelphia," published by the Alumnae Associations of the Seven Sisters Collegse and the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, she is a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America and serves as a class agent for her class at Mount Holyoke College.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Huth enjoys a variety of personal interests such as gardening, playing the guitar, attending book clubs, reading, exercising, doing yoga, learning new skills, painting, piano courses, Christmas caroling and spending time with her children John Edward Huth, PhD, and James Janavel Huth.
