Dr. Wilson has established a distinguished career in the field of early childhood and environmental education, marked by her dedication to connecting children with nature. Her most recent role as a research library curator at the Children & Nature Network from 2016 to 2024 underscored her commitment to this cause. In this capacity, Dr. Wilson curated over one thousand research studies that emphasized the importance of nature in children's development, drawing on her extensive body of publications that began in the early 1990s. Today, Dr. Wilson remains active in her field as an educational consultant and freelance writer. Her focus today is on the spiritual dimensions of connectedness to nature.

Before her tenure at the Children & Nature Network, Dr. Wilson served as an instructor and department chair for early childhood education at Bellevue Community College in Bellevue, Washington, from 2005 to 2007. During this period, Dr. Wilson also contributed as a special needs coordinator for the Toledo Board of Jewish Education, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to inclusive education. Additionally, Dr. Wilson contributed her expertise as a consultant to several institutions, including the Brookfield Zoo and the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center from 2010 to 2013, where she applied her knowledge to enhance educational programs.

In preparation for her future, Dr. Wilson received a Bachelor of Science in secondary education and science from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, in 1966. She then pursued a Master of Education in special education at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, graduating in 1981. Dr. Wilson's academic pursuits culminated with a Doctor of Philosophy in early childhood and elementary education from the University of Toledo in 1988. These academic achievements have been foundational to her success, providing her with the expertise necessary to influence both educational practices and policies.

Dr. Wilson's contributions extend beyond academia into published works that have garnered significant attention. Her books, such as "Nature and Young Children: Fostering Creative Play and Learning in Natural Environments" and "Naturally Inclusive: Engaging Children of All Abilities Outdoors," reflect her dedication to fostering an appreciation for nature among young learners. Dr. Wilson's co-authored work "Creating Quality of Life for Adults on the Autism Spectrum" further highlights her commitment to inclusivity.

Throughout her career, Dr. Wilson has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Friends of the Division of Early Childhood Education Award from the Ohio Department of Education in 1999 and the Caroline French Morton Award from the National Arbor Day Foundation in 2007. Looking ahead, she aims to continue writing and sharing innovative ideas, focusing on bridging concepts across fields to present fresh insights into education and the role of nature within it.
