LOMITA, CA, July 17, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Tayfun Gundogdu has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Gundogdu is a globally recognized expert in electric machine and electromagnetic sensor, particularly resolvers, design, with over 15 years of experience spanning industrial, automotive, and aerospace sectors. Currently serving as a Senior Advanced Electrical Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace Technologies, he leads initiatives to optimize electric propulsion systems, enhance powertrain efficiency, and drive forward the frontiers of aerospace electromagnetics.
Dr. Gundogdu's engineering excellence is rooted in a robust academic foundation. Dr. Gundogdu's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in electrical education in 2009, followed by a Master of Science in electrical engineering-electrical machines from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 2012. He then earned dual PhDs in Electrical Engineering, including a doctorate from The University of Sheffield, UK, under the supervision of Professor Zi-Qiang Zhu, a world-renowned expert in electric machines and recipient of the IEEE Nikola Tesla Award. There, Dr. Gundogdu conducted pioneering research on non-overlapping winding topologies for electric vehicle motors. This research was fully funded by Valeo Powertrain Systems (Paris)—a testament to its industrial relevance and impact.
Recognized by his peers, Dr. Gundogdu was elected Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2023—an honor reserved for less than 10% of the IEEE's 400,000+ global members, marking his substantial professional maturity and technical contributions. He is also an active Associate Editor for the IET Electric Power Applications journal and serves as an Invited Editor-in-Chief for CES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems.
Prior to joining Honeywell, Dr. Gundogdu served as R&D Design Manager at GAMAK Electric Motors, where he led cross-functional teams in delivering over 20% efficiency improvements in electric machine systems without increasing manufacturing costs. His innovations have been implemented in industrial motors, electric vehicles, cryogenic pumps, and rail traction systems. At Akim Metal, he also developed ultra-high-accuracy resolvers used in defense applications.
In parallel with his engineering career, Dr. Gundogdu has made lasting contributions to higher education. He held academic positions at Hakkari University and Istanbul Technical University, where he rose to the rank of Associate Professor and supervised cutting-edge research on electrical machines and electromagnetic sensors. His scholarly output includes over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, 500+ verified reviews, and citations exceeding 430, reflecting his influence on both research and innovation.
A U.S. Permanent Resident through the EB1-A Extraordinary Ability (Einstein) Visa, Dr. Gundogdu's career is driven by relentless curiosity and a passion for discovery. His philosophy centers on learning deeply, contributing meaningfully, and translating scientific insight into real-world impact.
Dr. Gundogdu's philosophy is driven by relentless curiosity and a commitment to excellence. He believes in immersing himself deeply into subjects of interest, learning comprehensively and contributing meaningfully through publications or completed projects. This approach has guided his career trajectory from academia to engineering, where he continues to make significant impacts.
Initially driven by a desire to be a researcher and professor, Dr. Gundogdu now focuses on advancing advancing the state of electric machine design in aerospace and electric mobility sectors as an engineer with ambitions to become a Principal or Chief Engineer. His move to the United States was motivated by pursuing greater opportunities in advanced technology sectors, where he aims to continue making meaningful contributions that improve others' lives.
