EUGENE, OR, July 22, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jeff Baldwin has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Currently holding the title of professor emeritus at Sonoma State University, Mr. Baldwin has established a distinguished career with more than 25 years in his profession. Widely recognized for his expertise in environmental geography and conservation, he teaches his students how to use geography from an analytics standpoint and highlights its impact on their future careers and personal lives. Though he is retired from his full-time endeavors, he continues to educate his community through the University of Oregon's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and is seeking a publisher for his recently completed manuscript titled "Restoring Global Abundance: Relearning Co-Adaptive Mutualism from our Biosphere and Reversing its Modern Destruction."

Mr. Baldwin's tenure at Sonoma State University began in 2008 when he joined as a visiting professor. He gained a tenure-track position in 2009. Over the years, he became an integral part of the institution, and as chair of the Geography Department from 2016 to 2020, he oversaw the very successful merger of his department with Environmental Studies to become the Department of Geography, Environment, and Planning. Prior to starting his tenure at Sonoma State, he was a visiting professor at Willamette University from 2003 to 2007 and at Western Oregon University from 2005 to 2007. His longstanding dedication to education was acknowledged in 2019 when he was named Educator of the Year by Sonoma State faculty.

Mr. Baldwin's commitment to teaching and research has been evident throughout his career. He developed a pioneering introductory course on sustainable development that emphasized the relationships between society and our wider environment, with an emphasis on local to global food systems. His teachings have covered subjects such as society and climate change, geopolitics, political ecology, and a senior seminar through which students developed their own original research projects.

Mr. Baldwin's own academic journey began at the University of Oregon, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Finance. Graduating at the nadir of a recession, he found employment with Lane County and pursued a career as a professional large-format black and white photography artist, culminating in a solo exhibition in New York's Soho district in 1992. In 1993, he shifted his focus, quitting art and his job, and returned to the community college to explore options. Through a seminar course, which placed students in public school classrooms, he found his next passion: education. In 1995, he found geography and soon after began graduate studies, completing a Master of Arts in geography in 1998 with a thesis that explained the human role in beach erosion in Antigua and Barbuda. In 2003, he completed his PhD in geography; his dissertation focused on the financial/social/environmental crisis following the 1996 crash in Indonesia, and the interrelationships among Indonesians, their environments and global actors.

In addition to his academic achievements, Mr. Baldwin is actively involved with several environmental conservation efforts in his current home, Oregon. His work with these organizations includes hands-on landscape restoration and promoting legislation to enable beaver recolonization projects with the McKenzie River Trust, Oregon Wild, and Cascadia Wildlands.

Dr. Baldwin is also an accomplished author with 20 peer-reviewed research publications. His works challenge long-held assumptions about human-environment interrelationships and cover topics such as environmental history, mitigating and adapting to changes in climate, more-than-human agency, and much more. These publications reflect his deep commitment to advancing knowledge in environmental geography and sustainability education. He also published a tour book, "Cycling Hawaii," in 1996.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Mr. Baldwin enjoys walking (forests, cities, and beaches), vegetable gardening and photography. In the coming years, he plans to publish shorter articles in magazine formats and continue supporting hands-on conservation efforts through collaborations with organizations like the McKenzie River Trust. Having recently watched three of his students graduate and gain acceptance into highly regarded graduate programs, he is immensely proud to have seen them reap the rewards for their hard work and dedication. His devotion to both education and environmental conservation continues to inspire those around him and cements his meaningful impact on young people and society at large.
