With a professional journey spanning 25 years, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership and expertise in enabling biologic programs to advance through clinical trials, regulatory support, quality assurance and manufacturing processes. His commitment to innovation is exemplified by his work with Natrix Separations Inc., where he advanced the field of membrane chromatography, revolutionizing industry approaches.

In addition to his role at Transition State Biologics, Dr. Stout serves as the vice president of manufacturing at Novex Innovations, where he oversees the initiation, design and performance of projects involving biologics, pharmaceuticals and medical devices. His tenure at Novex was preceded by his role as the head of drug product process development at Kudo Biotechnology — a pioneering messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) manufacturer that specializes in developing innovative and personalized medicines — from 2023 to 2024. From 2020 to 2023, he was the vice president of chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC), operations and facilities at Shattuck Labs in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Dr. Stout's earlier career includes significant contributions as the director of process science biologics at Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, during which he was pivotal in establishing a new BioVectra Microbial Biologics facility in Nova Scotia. He was also the vice president of glycobiologic process development and manufacturing at HOST Therabiomics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, from 2017 to 2018, further honing his leadership and project management skills.

Before venturing onto his pharmaceutical path, Dr. Stout pursued an equally robust education that laid a strong foundation for his later achievements. He earned a PhD in chemistry in 1993 and a Master of Science in biochemistry in 1991, both from the University of Cincinnati. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Denison University, graduating with honors in 1988. Furthermore, he received a NIH postdoctoral fellowship from the Department of Pharmacology and Cell Biophysics at the University of Cincinnati, further honing his scientific acumen.

As an ongoing commitment to his field, Dr. Stout is professionally affiliated with esteemed organizations such as the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers, the Biophysical Society and the Protein Society. Determined to stay at the forefront of scientific advancements and encourage future scientific leaders, he is also a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Sigma Xi and Omicron Delta Kappa.

In recognition of his storied achievements, Dr. Stout has received accolades such as the Role Model Award from Amgen in 2008 and was a finalist for the College Achievement Award from Time Magazine in 1987. Also known for sharing his scientific knowledge and insights through writing, he authored a chapter for the influential book "Alcohol and Neurobiology Receptors" in 1992 and has contributed peer-review articles to various scientific journals.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Dr. Stout is actively involved in civic organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and has volunteered at the Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. Happily married and a proud father of three children and three stepchildren, his personal interests include running, weightlifting, hiking, hunting, photography and visiting distilleries for wine or bourbon tasting.
