Ms. Thomas has built a distinguished reputation based on both military and civilian service. Since 2024, she has been on the faculty of the Dallas Independent School District, where she currently teaches fourth and fifth grade reading and is known for her profound dedication to students. She takes immense satisfaction in ensuring that each learner has the resources needed to thrive, and Ms. Thomas persists in incorporating innovative teaching methods, such as specialized programs and small group sessions, to address the needs of her diverse student population.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Thomas taught at Uplift Education from 2023 to 2024 and was with the Dallas Public Schools from 2021 to 2023. Her journey as an educator began at Greenwood Public Schools from 2008 to 2012, after which she served students at Memorial Christian Academy from 2013 to 2015. Additionally, during a 17-year military tenure with the United States Army, Ms. Thomas ascended to the rank of E7 and gained valuable expertise in administration while deploying for operations such as Desert Shield and Desert Storm; notably, she was also acknowledged with multiple Army Commendation Medals throughout her military career.

Ms. Thomas's educational accomplishments are impressive and have been instrumental in her success as an educator. She holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a minor in sociology from Metropolitan State College of Denver, which she finished in 2007, and a Master of Arts in elementary education with a focus on art studies from Mississippi Valley State University (HBCU), completed in 2011. Ms. Thomas takes great pride in having secured these credentials and, driven by a passion for continuous improvement, she is pursuing a doctorate in instruction, assessment and curriculum at Walden University.

A deep commitment to community service is reflected in Ms. Thomas's involvement with various civic organizations. She actively supports food drives and is a member of the Columbine Sisters, and these contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Outstanding Volunteer Service to the Community award in 2001. Ms. Thomas also maintains membership in the National Education Association, evidence of her dedication to advancing educational standards and practices.

Ms. Thomas credits the benefit of supportive relationships, including her family's consistent inspiration, and the strong connections she forged with her military colleagues as critical to her advancement. She also relies on insights into the complexities of human emotions and awareness of people's struggles to better understand how to assist others. To achieve balance against her rigorous professional obligations, she plays dominoes, hikes, swims and gardens, and she is learning urban dancing and poetry writing. Looking toward the future, Ms. Thomas hopes to establish a shelter for women that provides resources for individuals of all backgrounds, and she will continue to revel in the accomplishments of her students and the progress of her district.
