In his role, he has been instrumental in advancing the company's strategic initiatives across the United States and Costa Rica, leveraging his extensive knowledge in environmental management and sustainable practices. In addition to his business development role, Dr. Smith has been the president of Sol Investments Tam, S.A. since 1995. His leadership throughout the last three decades has been pivotal in expanding the company's reach and influence within the real estate, agricultural, tropical forestry and construction sectors. From 1993 to 2003, he also led the Robert Smith Company as president, where he engaged in environmental consulting to advise businesses, governments and executives on best practices.

Dr. Smith's scientific acumen was further demonstrated during his tenure as a molecular biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. His work focused on oceanic heavy metal pollution, resulting in approximately 20 publications being contributed to this critical field of study. As a consultant, he has advised both governments and private developers on tropical resource management and has written environmental plans for regions in Florida, North Carolina and Costa Rica. His government service has also seen him author and co-author more than 100 works covering various areas of ecological research and policy.

Driven by a foundational lesson from his grandmother that one's education can never be taken away, Dr. Smith has shared his extensive knowledge as a teacher at several institutions, including East Carolina University, Miami Dade College, University of Mexico and The College of the Florida Keys. His contributions to academia are complemented by his involvement with industry-related organizations such as the United States Exotic Pest Council and the National Science Foundation as well as chairman of the North Carolina Academy of Science for Medicine.

Dr. Smith's educational background is equally robust; he successfully obtained a doctorate in biochemistry, a Master of Science in organismal ecology and a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and biology, all from East Carolina University. To expand his professional qualifications, he is also certified as a viral geneticist. His remarkable abilities became clear early on when he developed a published equation in eighth grade that converted binary numeral systems to numeric, laying a vital foundation for early computing possibilities.

Also known for his contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Dr. Smith engages in volunteer work with local community organizations and continued to lend his expertise to various environmental conservation efforts. His valiant efforts have been recognized with a national award in maritime ecology and numerous citations of his findings in research journals.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Smith maintains an active lifestyle through surfing, running and baseball. Looking ahead, he envisions continuing his endeavors while living on a ranch in Costa Rica, where he manages organic agriculture and breeds Andalusian horses using gentle training methods that emphasize trust and physical connection from birth.
