STAFFORD, VA, August 04, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Joseph "Jaws" Laws has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Marked by a series of significant roles and achievements, Mr. Laws has established a distinguished career in the field of aeronautics and international affairs. Currently serving as an executive consultant at D3 Air & Space Operations since 2024, he delivers technical advice and subject matter expertise for remotely piloted aircraft to include Collaborative Combat Aircraft authoring United States Department of the Air Force policies regarding export of military technologies to partners and allies of the United States.
Prior to his reaching current role, Mr. Laws was the senior advisor to the director of regional affairs for the Secretary of the Air Force, International Affairs (SAF/IA) from 2023 to 2024. In this capacity, he provided critical insights into regional dynamics and contributed to shaping policies that enhanced international collaboration, security assistance programs and educational initiatives. His tenure as chief of the Europe and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) division from 2020 to 2023 further solidified his expertise in international relations, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening alliances and served as Chairman of the multinational F-16 fighter program's Senior Steering Committee.
From 2018 to 2020, Mr. Laws served as chief of the Israel branch and country director for the United States Air Force. This position, in which he prepared senior leaders through political and military advice and developed various programs for the National Security Council and Department of Defense, allowed him to deepen his understanding of Middle Eastern geopolitics and navigate complex international landscapes. Concurrently, he was also appointed as chief of air operations for a United Nations mission in Mali from 2018 to 2019, where he adeptly coordinated with non-NATO partners during challenging times.
Mr. Laws' earlier career includes his role as chief of global precision attack for the United States Air Force from 2015 to 2017, where he was instrumental in providing oversight and guidance for 40 Combat Air Force (CAF) programs. As the commander of the 427th Reconnaissance Squadron from 2014 to 2015, he demonstrated exceptional leadership in overseeing reconnaissance missions critical to national security. Notably, as the director of operations for the 645th Aeronautical System Squadron from 2009 to 2011, he made a lasting impact on military aviation operations through initiatives like experimental flight testing that reduced casualties from improvised explosive devices.
Hailing from a humble background, Mr. Laws was raised by his father, a coal miner and dealt with the challenges of the declining coal industry. Determined to pursue higher education, Mr. Laws went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University in 1999 — during which he found his desired career path when he was selected for pilot training — and obtained a Master of Business Administration in entrepreneurship from American Military University in 2011. His education was further enriched by coursework at prestigious institutions such as NATO Defense College and United States Army Command and General Staff College, all of which equipped him with a robust understanding of international relations and defense strategies.
Recognized for his outstanding contributions to international affairs as well as his academic achievements, Mr. Laws was honored with the Air Force Materiel Command Field Grade Officer of the Year award in 2011 and received the Academic Excellence award during his pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base. Looking back on his storied success, he credits his willingness to step outside of his comfort zone to help others and his desire to advocate for positive change within his field.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Laws is a proud father of two children who enjoys hiking as a personal pastime. Looking to the future, he envisions collaborative combat aircraft flying alongside NATO allies of the United States, demonstrating their united resolve when needed.
