Colonel Corey Trusty's career is marked by a trajectory of increasing responsibility and strategic impact across both the United States Air Force (USAF) and the United States Space Force (USSF). Currently, as the Military Deputy, International Affairs Space Division within the United States Air Force (since July 2024), Colonel Trusty is instrumental in shaping the Department of the Air Force's (DAF's) space strategy and international posture. This role allows him to leverage his experience to influence space strategy, plans, and posture with respect to international affairs. He leads a 22-member division, synchronizing operations and managing complex taskers while supporting space strategy development and negotiations. A key aspect of his work involves providing oversight to international armament cooperative agreements with global allies and partners, ensuring alignment with USSF/USAF priorities and Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) guidance. He also prepares senior leaders, including the Secretary of the Air Force, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Chief of Space Operations (CSO), and other senior DAF leaders, with data-driven regional analyses and strategic advice for engagements with the U.S. Department of State (DoS), foreign dignitaries, and key space leaders. Furthermore, Colonel Trusty represents and advises the OSD, DAF, DoS, and U.S. Embassies on foreign policy and international space cooperation, overseeing USSF Foreign Military Sales (FMS) activities and directing the USSF position on the export of space assets.

Before taking on his current role, Colonel Trusty played a crucial role in the formative years of the USSF. From July 2021 to July 2024, he served as the Chief of Colonel Talent Management, advising the CSO and VCSO on the management of Space Force Guardians. His influence shaped decisions on assignments, professional development, and force management policies, requiring close coordination with senior leaders across the Department of Defense (DoD) and other outside agencies. Concurrently, from February 2023 to December 2024, he held the position of USSF National Capital Region Section Commander, where he was hand-selected to execute command authority on behalf of the Commander, Space Operations Command (SpOC/CC), supporting over 1200 Guardians. This included exercising court-martial convening authority and imposing nonjudicial punishment (NJP) for Guardians assigned to various high-level organizations, including Headquarters Air Force, the Joint Staff, the White House, and the DoD.

Prior to his service within the Space Force, Colonel Trusty served as a Branch Chief at United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) from July 2019 to June 2021, contributing to the command's critical mission of deterring strategic attacks and employing forces to secure the Nation and its allies. From 2017 to 2019, he served as the Director of Operations for the Office of Space Launch (OSL) at the National Reconnaissance Office-Vandenberg (NRO-V), overseeing all aspects of satellite launches and representing OSL with industry partners, the Air Force, and NASA.

His experience extends to the doctrinal realm, having served as Chief, Space and Missile Operations & Deputy Chair to Air Force Space Command at the LeMay Center for Doctrine Development and Education from August 2016 to July 2017. In this role, he was responsible for developing and assessing Air Force doctrine and advocating air power doctrine in Joint and multinational arenas.

Colonel Trusty's international experience includes a tour as the HQ USAFE-AFAFRICA Command Space Weapons Officer in Germany from August 2014 to August 2016. During this assignment, he supported U.S. national and NATO objectives by planning, conducting, and coordinating air and space operations across Europe and Africa.

Earlier in his career, Colonel Trusty honed his operational expertise through a series of demanding roles at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. At Peterson AFB, he served as the Deputy Chief and then Chief of Wing Weapons and Tactics within the 21st Operations Support Squadron, providing expert advice to military leaders and instructing instructors. He also served as Assistant Operations Officer and Crew Commander within the 76th Space Control Squadron, contributing to combat space superiority effects for joint forces. During this time, he deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and International Security Assistance Force followed by being selected to and graduating from the United States Air Force Weapons School.

At Cape Canaveral AFS, from November 2007 to June 2010, he held positions as Range Control Officer, Range Operations Commander, and Launch Decision Authority/Operations Director, supporting all Eastern Range Launch Operations and ensuring timely and accurate "Go/No-Go" calls for critical launches. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Chief of Contingency Operations at Patrick Air Force Base and as a Ballistic Missile Early Warning System Crew Commander and Instructor at Thule (Pituffik), Greenland, providing critical, real-time missile warning and space situational awareness.

However, Colonel Trusty's distinguished career began back at the institution that helped forge him into who is today in his pivotal role as the Director of Recruitment Communications for Air Force ROTC (AFROTC) Detachment 015 at Tuskegee University, Alabama, from June to December 2004. During this time, Colonel Trusty spearheaded efforts to identify, educate, train, and motivate future Air Force officers through a rigorous college program. His leadership was instrumental in providing cadets with a strong foundation in Air Force doctrine, invaluable practical leadership experience, and comprehensive field training. Colonel Trusty ensured that these future leaders were exceptionally well-prepared for the challenges and responsibilities of active duty. His dedication to AFROTC, a selectively manned program known for its high standards, reflects his commitment to developing the next generation of Air Force leaders.

Colonel Trusty's educational background has been instrumental in his professional achievements. He holds a master's degree in public health from American Military University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Bioethics from Tuskegee University. His academic pursuits have provided him with a strong foundation in both scientific principles and public health considerations, which have been invaluable throughout his career.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Colonel Trusty is deeply committed to mentoring others. He regularly meets with younger alumni and Guardians (active duty & civilian) at the Pentagon to discuss career paths and personal development. For him, giving back is a significant accomplishment that enhances service members' contributions to their fields.

Colonel Trusty credits his success to the support of his family – those by blood and his extended family he has collected throughout his career. His spouse, a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the U.S. Air Force, has provided invaluable guidance based on her own experiences in the military. She and their son have been constant driving forces in his life, serving as a north star.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Colonel Trusty enjoys spending time with his family, running, sports, exercise, spending time in nature and being a soccer dad. Looking ahead, he aims to participate in a fellowship with the Council on Foreign Relations in Manhattan, New York where he will be the fist Guardian to do so in this highly coveted program. He is dedicated to advocating for continued growth within the Space Force and is contemplating future assignments that will allow him to further advance this young branch of the military. Colonel Trusty's diverse career reflects his adaptability, strategic thinking, and commitment to service, making him a valuable asset to both the Air Force and the Space Force.
