Additionally, she founded Michele Downey and Associates Recovery Coaching School in Hollywood and Carlsbad, California, in 2011. Ms. Downey holds several certifications that underscore her expertise: she is a Registered Nurse licensed in New Mexico and California, a Master Addiction Counselor, and an LMFT (licensed marriage and family therapist) in California. She has served on the San Diego Board of SOAP (Society of Addiction Professionals). Her work with one of the first alcohol treatment centers in a hospital," The Care Unit" at Lovelace-Bataan Hospital, Albuquerque, New Mexico, was a high point in her career.

Michele Downey's academic foundation includes a Master of Arts in psychology, with a minor in English, and a bachelor's degree in counselor education from The University of New Mexico. She furthered her education with an Associate of Science in Nursing from the University of Albuquerque School of Nursing. These academic achievements have been instrumental in shaping her career, providing her with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in various professional roles. Throughout her career, Ms. Downey has been recognized for outstanding contributions, including being named Counselor of the Year at Halcyon Center (the first of its kind, which is a crisis house that combined the medical and social models). Ms. Downey attributes her success to her desire to help people, understanding that her work can make a significant impact as to quality of life. Prior to this, she served as clinical coordinator and head nurse at Harborview Medical Center. Early experiences as a registered nurse were influenced by her parents' medical professions and her exposure to the challenges faced by patients during a time when cancer and AIDS were largely untreatable.

From 2014 to 2016, she served as host, director, and producer of "Design for Living," a radio talk show on Amazing Women of Power, produced by Raven International Media. In addition, Ms. Downey created a series of audio programs featuring Australian music, "The Chill Sessions," for relaxation, meditation, visualization, and mindfulness. Other audio recordings were created to educate families with various mental health issues in school settings. Ms. Downey has made significant contributions through her projects and publications and co-authored "Feeling Terrific" alongside Dr. Namir Damluji and Renee Sievert.
