Ms. Smith earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Kean University (1997) and a Master of Science in Administration from Central Michigan University (2006). In 2024, she expanded her skills by obtaining a credential in Developing Leadership Presence through LinkedIn.

She is a proud member of the Adjutant General's Corps. She remains deeply involved in her community through organizations such as Big Sister Little Sister, Saint Louis Parish, and the Girl Scouts of the USA.

In recognition of her distinguished service, Ms. Smith has received numerous military honors, including the Bronze Star Medal, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, seven Meritorious Service Medals, and the National Defense Service Medal (two awards). She is also a recipient of the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars and the Kosovo Campaign Medal with a Bronze Service Star. Additionally, she earned both the Parachutist Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
