OAKLAND, NJ, August 15, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Robert J. West Jr. has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. West has dedicated two decades to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where he currently serves as a vocational instructor. Since 2013, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape within the institution. His responsibilities include teaching hybrid classes for introductory courses in the field of horticulture, which run three to four sessions annually for over 40 to 60 inmates, instructing all staff members in disturbance control techniques and mentoring new staff members to better understand the early stages of their career. Additionally, he collaborates with the Orange County Cornell Extension Office to teach the New York Master Gardener program, currently enrolling 14 men, and serves as the institution's apprenticeship coordinator for the U.S. Department of Labor, overseeing 20 sponsored programs. Mr. West also coordinates with various departments and acts as the direct sponsor of the horticulture program, currently representing two apprentices.

Before his current role, Mr. West was employed in the solar panel factory within the prison for three years until its closure, serving as a line foreman and acting quality assurance manager. His journey with the Federal Bureau of Prisons began after five years as an officer, where he honed his skills in leadership and management. A notable achievement marks his career trajectory.

Though he was not promoted to an official leadership position, it has been rewarding to be recognized as a leader by his peers, executives and regional leadership. And while he was actively involved in some of the less favorable moments in recent history such as Hurricane Katrina, Guantanamo Bay Detention Center, the Covid pandemic, and the George Floyd Riots, remaining well liked and trusted by his community is reassuring that he has conducted himself correctly during his career and remained a peak professional.

Mr. West's professional journey commenced with his service in the U.S. Army immediately after high school, holding military occupational specialties as an armor crewman, military corrections and reconnaissance. He was deployed as military corrections to serve at the Guantanamo Bay, Camp Delta Detention Center. This experience laid a strong foundation for his career in law enforcement and education. Recognizing the importance of formal education, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts in education studies from the University of Arizona Global Campus. This academic achievement has been pivotal in his role as an educator, enabling him to impart knowledge effectively and inspire those under his tutelage.

In addition to his professional commitments, Mr. West is actively involved in civic activities. In a partnership with the Toys for Tots organization, he organized a charitable football tournament at the Federal Bureau of Prisons and has been a donor of goods and cash to his local community since 2015. His contributions have not gone unnoticed; he is an inductee of the Salute Veterans National Honor Society, Alpha Sigma Lambda and the Golden Key International Honour Society. Furthermore, he was nominated for the Norman A. Carlson award by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Mr. West attributes much of his success to his resilience and determination, qualities that have served him well in navigating the challenges inherent in law enforcement and education. He emphasizes doing the right thing despite difficulties, a principle that guides his work as an instructor.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. West enjoys gardening and planting flowers and trees in his backyard, supporting his daughters in their sports and hobbies, and family game nights. Looking ahead, he plans to conclude his chapter with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and explore new opportunities that align with his skills and interests.

Through dedication and perseverance, Mr. West has made significant contributions to his profession and community, leaving a lasting impact on those he has taught and worked alongside.
