In his role, he manages the day-to-day operations of the clinical engineering department, oversees the environment of care safety platform and leads the sustainability program. His responsibilities also include planning capital assets, budgeting and purchasing, and assisting with grant applications and implementation of funded grant programs.

In addition to his current role at MedStar Harbor, Mr. Gray has been the director of clinical support operations since 1991. His expertise in clinical engineering, sustainability and emergency preparedness has long been a crucial part of shaping the hospital's operational strategies. He began his storied tenure earlier in 1991 by serving as the director of clinical engineering and environment of care, where he quickly laid the groundwork for his future contributions to MedStar Harbor's growth.

Outside of his primary endeavors, Mr. Gray has also worked as a quality assurance technician at Baxter Health Care, where he honed his skills in ensuring high standards in medical technology. Though his career counts many milestones, his most significant accomplishment to date was his recognition by the president and vice president of MedStar Harbor, who have lauded his legacy in developing a comprehensive sustainability and wellness program that continues to benefit the facility today.

Before embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Gray earned an associate degree in biomedical engineering in 1989. To expand his knowledge and qualifications, he was certified as a health care technology manager (CHTM) in 2024. Furthermore, he has been certified in emergency management since 2003 and as an emergency manager and health care safety planner since 2002, showcasing his remarkable dedication to lifelong learning.

Mr. Gray attributes much of his success to the guidance of senior leaders who have supported his growth as both a leader and a health care professional, with their mentorship proving invaluable in helping him achieve a level of expertise that is widely recognized within the industry. His membership in industry-related organizations such as the Baltimore Medical Engineers and Technicians Society (BMETS) and the Emergency Care Research Institute (ECRI) — a nonprofit entity that strives to improve safety and affordability across the health care system — further underscores his commitment to professional development and helping those in need.

Beyond his vocational endeavors, Mr. Gray is a member of the community advisory board at Masonville Cove, an award-winning urban wildlife sanctuary and educational center that also engages in land cleanup and restoration. His contributions to the health care sector and his community were acknowledged when he was named the MedStar Harbor Hospital Person of the Year by the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce in 2017.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Gray aspires to further advance the sustainability and wellness program at MedStar Harbor Hospital. He is committed to ensuring that these initiatives remain strong and widely recognized, particularly given their heightened importance during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic. As he prepares for retirement from his full-time role, he is considering the possibility of training an apprentice to take over his responsibilities, ensuring his contributions to both the hospital and the wider community continue to make a meaningful impact.
