Prior to his current role, Dr. Masmoudi served as an advanced controls engineer at Bowater Corporation from 1999 to 2002, and as a Senior Research Engineer at Westvaco Inc. from 1992 until 1999. During this time, the American Forest and Paper Association recognized him with the George Olmsted Award in 1999. His technical expertise in engineering provided a strong foundation for his later work in nonprofit leadership and foreign policy advocacy. Dr. Masmoudi's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from California State University, Long Beach in 1985. He furthered his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 1987 and a PhD specializing in robotics with a minor in business administration in 1992. His educational background has been pivotal in shaping his analytical approach to problem-solving and strategic planning within his professional endeavors.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Masmoudi is actively involved in several civic organizations. He is a member of the steering committee for the World Movement for Democracy, the executive director and founding member of the Network of Democrats in the Arab World, the board of directors for the Muslim Community Center, and the founding member and president of the Tunisian Scientific Society. Dr. Masmoudi's unwavering determination has been a driving force behind his success. He continues to fight for democratic ideals within the Arab world. Outside his career, Dr. Masmoudi is dedicated to his family, enjoying time with his wife, four sons and daughters, and three grandchildren.
